Jaser: Even Tigers Need Doctors --UPDATED--
« on: May 18, 2007, 06:46:38 am »
Jaser (aka Mouse aka The Little Man aka The Smaller One aka Squeakie-Boi aka Baby-Boi) has just left for St Luke's Hospital to have his thyroid removed. This condition isn't related to HIV (hence my posting this thread here, rather than in Living With) but he did want you guys to know what's going on.

As his Fairy Poz Father the duty of informing you falls to Matty the Damned.

I think we all agree that he's an extraordinarily brave Little Man who at the humble age of 16 has dealt more shit than many of us. He's had a pretty ordinary couple of weeks. He is truly of the valiant heart.

But at the moment he's almost paralysed with fear. I've assured him that this is all going to work out, that this procedure is common place and unremarkable and that the staff in the Children's Ward at St. Luke's will know exactly how to deal with a terrified kid and so on.

But from the way he's been carrying on you'd think he was going to be boiled in oil.

Fortunately his doctor has had the wisdom to prescribe some tranquilisers for him to take last night and prior to the procedure, so he's pretty much resigned to his fate.

In fact he's stoned clean out of his little gourd. ;D

Anyhoo, his partner Arpad will be joining him later today and he has his beloved wombats with him so all should go well. As all Aussies know, the presence of wombats is a most propitious thing for ensuring a good surgical outcome.

He (or more likely the 'Pad) is going to text message once he's in recovery and I'll report back with how he's going. We would expect him to be in hospital at least overnight.

I know he'd love lots of messages of support and affection from his Forums brothers and sisters.

Hope it all goes well and you're back home real soon, Jaser.

I definitely won't be surprised if out of this experience you come up with some fine contemporary fierce fairy tales as observed in the hospital setting. And Arpad can do the illustrations.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I had Jaser's surgery written on my calendar so I would be sure to remember to say prayers for him today....

Honey,

You are stronger than you know.   We're all pulling for you, and you're going to be just fine.

Jaser,
Hope all goes well, and that you get through this thing quickly, and with as little discomfort as possible. Unfortunately, here in the US, we utterly lack wombats, otherwise I would FedEx one to you. Much love and luck from New Mexico.

I just asked him Roddles. He says they haven't told him as of yet, but he may have to stay in for another day or so.

He must be healing well though, because he's got his cranky back. ;D

Apparently the duty nurse last night was a "super bitch" who took blood from his wrist. His drain from the wound in his neck is leaking "gunk" all over his hospital gown and the IV fluids are making him pee every 5 minutes.

In short he's a thoroughly pissed off teenager. Oh the humanity! :)

LOL... a return to cranky is always a good (if annoying) sign.

Sounds like I may need to scale back on my secret recipe vibe sending before he gets cranky enough to get himself in trouble with the ward's resident Nurse Ratchet. (all hospital wards have them, do they not?)

I'm glad he's feeling better and just as importantly, I'm glad he's finally got this ordeal over and done with. I know he's been dreading it for ages.

Hugs for Jaser,
Ann

Lab Rat needs to know that at these small hospitals around here you have to pay for the TV, but at the larger hospitals it's charged in the room fees. Wait tell he finds out how much the toilet paper costs. ;) They'll send him some wet wipes with his bill, so after he sees it and shits, he can clean himself up.  ;)

Thanks for keeping us informed during this event. Let the Lab Rat know we are cheering for him to go home ASAP. Don't piss off the nurse though, that would be a very bad thing. Can you say Unnecessary Catheter?

ROFL, she probably looks like the nurse Matty always talks about. The Catheter! Lab Rat wouldn't care if it went thru his ass to his bladder. That would put a smile on his face. ;) It's hell, him not being here so we can pick on him. When he heals, we'll have to send him to "Ink" so he can get a tattoo over his scar. No flowers either, it has to be manly and butch.

Hey guys.

I actually got home late morning but the second we piled my stuffed animals and balloons into my room I passed out for a few hours.

It was really nice to log onto here after waking up to read this whole thread. Matty told me he was making one for me so it was the only thing that pried me away from going back to bed and getting on the computer instead.

I'm incredibly sore but it's nothing I can't deal with. Of course I made sure I was on a steady diet of morphine last night and then after I realized that morphine made me incredibly nauseous, an even steadier diet of anti-nausea stuff.

Some of the pissy stuff was they actually didn't have any room on the children's floor (which they teased me and let me look at first, and it had animals all over the walls) and had to stick me downstairs with the grownups who were irritating and keep ringing their goddamn buttons every ten seconds. My mom got me a new stuffed animal (a yellow puppy) that I named Mark after my surgeon that they actually let me carry in with me into surgery (and then I suspect after I was knocked clean out they put it to the side). I had my wombats and my puppy and my boyfriend with me all night and I had him constantly running and doing things for me and he got about as little sleep as I did. :D

When I came out of my morphine induced stupor this morning at about 5 I realized that I felt a LOT better and they released me by 9 and I was out of there by 10. Then I had to go to the pharmacy and pick up my next collection of pills I'll have to take for the rest of my life. 75 MCG of levothyroxine (Synthroid) which are incredibly, incredibly tiny little pills and they'll be no problem to take down with the rest of my meal of assorted medications each day.

Anyway, I do feel a LOT better now, I'll be able to take the last bit of gauze off my neck tomorrow and the thing little sticky strip things that go over where they pulled my drain out will fall off on their own in about a week. I hope by then I have my normal voice back, because right now I can't speak above a whisper.

Edit: Did I mention the doctor that took out my drain was INSANELY HOT? He leaned down with a pair of tweezers to pull the 6 inch piece of shit out of my throat and his face was right into mine and he stared at me with his two gorgeous eyes and ooohh. He made that procedure remarkably easier.

right now I can't speak above a whisper.

WHAT? :D

Funny Milker! :D

But at least you can type, sweetie! Lovely to see you back. Glad everything went ok and the discomfort is not unbearable. My brave little soldier! ;) It always helps when having an uncomfy procedure done that it's being carried out by someone cute...almost makes it worth it! ;D

OK Lab Rat you're home. What can we do to make you more miserable, I mean comfortable? ;D Don't touch that neck with dirty grimy little hands and fingers. Your new bedtime hours are 9pm and up at 7am M-THRS. F-Sat you can stay up till 10, but back up at 7am. Sunday- church!!!!! Glad to see you made it home. Now take care of yourself.

Jaser,

WELCOME HOME BUDDY!!!!! Glad that you survived your ordeal, surgery is most definitely not fabulous. And don't even get me started on those stupid hospital gowns. Keep us posted on how your recovery is coming along.

Wishes for a speedy recovery, Capt.Carl

Glad you feel better Squeak! Whispering is a no-no! I mean it! From an old otolaryngological nurse take my advice.....DON"T WHISPER! Use whatever voice comes out. If any one requires you to speak louder, tell them you must abstain until you cords are back in proper order. I really mean it! No Whispering!
Whispering requires you to use your false vocal cords, and will impinge upon the healing process of your true cords.

Love you, and hope you give yourself a week of voice rest.  :-*
