The gene pool has been out and about swimming around for the last couple of days.

Along with buds budding tee shirts and shorts are not far off....

Lower Great Lakes regions here.......still ANTICIPATING.......but the teasing begins.
We were close to 50 degrees day before yesterday.
The sky was so blue and little puffy white clouds with a soft caressing warm breeze.
Today there is snow on the ground and it's harsh, frigid temps again. Spring teases us.

Here in Philadelphia, the FLOWER SHOW ( http://www.theflowershow.com/home/index.html ) is the first official sign that Spring has started.  Its the largest indoor exhibit in the world I guess.

YAY!!  Today I planted beans and squash. The redbuds are in bloom. The butterfly weeds are starting to leaf out. And in six weeks or so, the Monarchs will start migrating throughTexas! Papa B can't wait to find the little critters eating plants down to the ground!

Oh, Eric!  I'm sorry the weather sucks in your area. We had an ice storm in February, and I really really TRIED to go to work, but I was walking down the stairs to my flat and I slipped on the top step, landed on my hip,  and bounced down four more steps.  Not only did I cuss, I ended up missing work that day!  In the boody Desert Southwest! I hope you get nice Spring days soon.

4 days of snow, sleet, rain, hail, sleet and then more snow.  Sitting here in a big mess in the upper midwest.  The sun came out for a while today.  Spring will come.  Won't it?

Damn you, cold front!

We had seventy degrees two days ago, and it is now about 35 outside.

Welcome to Virginia.  Don't like the weather?  Wait five minutes.

This talk of flowers reminds me of this really cool thing I read in an anarchist magazine, of all places.

It was kind of about reclaiming empty urban lots.

You essentially make a bomblet of soil, fertilzer, and wildflower seeds.

Make sure you use hardy wildflowers... and you embed the seeds a mixture of the soil and fertilizer.  Use a LOT of seeds.

Then, you put it in some sort of biodegradeable balloon-like container (they had some suggestions, but I forgot what they were)... mix a little water in there... make a whole bunch of these things.

And then you go out under cover of darkness and throw them into every empty urban lot you can find.  The balloon will pop and spread the seeds all over the place.

It has the benefit of not being vandalism or even illegal... quite the opposite, in fact, you're prettifying.

Then, you can go by in a few weeks and see the results of your work.

I might try to do this this year... it would be fun, and there are some places in Richmond that are in sore need of flowers.

Hi all...sorry to report, March is being very moody here in NYC.  60 degrees and sunny on saturday, dropping to a balmy 11 degrees tonight...wind chills minus 5-10.  We've got a way to go here.  Maybe the time change this weekend will help out ???

I love spring, I do. Finally the chance to take the ferrets to the park in my Uber-Geeky stroller.

But damn, my eyes feel and look like salted cherry tomatoes. Freaking allergies.

When I lived in Williamsburg (Virginia), I so loathed it that I had plans to get lots and lots of kudzu and bamboo and plant it gratis until Colonial Williamsburg looked like the Mekong Delta.

Its probablly a good thing that we live fairly far apart, otherwise we would form an underground, sneak around at night in dark purple hoodies,  and seriously fuck some shit up.
