rapid hiv test on the internet and window period.
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:13:46 PM »
Hello, this is my first time in the forum. ( english isn't my first language)
I am the type of person that get tested at least one a year but I have to say that I have tested at least twice a year for the past 8 years. When I used to live in New York city I found this place where you could get tested for hiv using the rapid test that gives the result within 20 minutes. I found this new way of testing an amzing revolution, because I use to wait  one to two weeks and it was  just a nightmare.
I am currently living in Germany for work and here there aren't as many places as in the states to get info about hiv. The rapid test aren't approved for testing. Now I am worried because I perfomed oral sex on somebody. My only option to get the rapid test is through the internet, but I don't know if purchasing a rapid test through the internet is a good idea. Are hiv rapid test approved by FDA to be sold on the internet?.
IN the website that offer them says the window period is 3 months but 6 months is conclusive and one year in somecases. This type of info made me wonder because as for the new updates on window period by today hiv test standards 3 months is conclusive.lt seems to me that it is just a marketing strategy to sell more kits.
So, can i realy on a hiv test kit that is sold on the internet? Thanks!

un,

You say you preformed oral on somebody, but was that going down on a woman, or a blojob? Going down on a woman is NOT a risk for hiv infection.

Giving a blowjob is a very, very low risk. You don't need to test every time you give a blowjob. There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one. This shows us two things. One, condoms are very effective for the prevention of hiv transmission. Two, oral sex is much lower risk than previously believed. We now have the evidence that oral sex is a very low risk activity where hiv transmission is concerned.

The only "internet" hiv test that is FDA approved is Home Access, but I don't think it is available in Europe. I suggest you test locally, but only as a part of your regular, routine sexual health care check up.

Keep using those condoms and you will keep testing negative.

genital herpes make hiv infection easier ?
« Reply #3 on: February 24, 2007, 08:30:27 AM »
Hello everybody
Question. Why people with genital herpes are more susceptible to catch hiv? something to do with their immune system? Or only when they have an outbreak that makes easier to get hiv. In the case of anal intercouse I know by using comdoms properly you are covered but I am concerned about the blow job situaction because even though considered low risk maybe by  having genital herpes make this scnerio a much higher risk.
Thanks!

Are you saying you received a blowjob while you had an outbreak of genital herpes?

If you received a blowjob, it's still no risk, with or without a herpes outbreak. In the entire history of the epidemic and uncounted billions of bjs later, there has never been a documented case of transmission in this manner.

It's safe to say you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

Please clarify if I am missing something here.

Hello Andy,
No I wasn't talking of any situation in particular, I just would like to  know for the future, since I have genital herpes that make easier for me to catch hiv by giving  a blow job, or regardless of genital herpes giving a blow job stay as a low risk? Thanks!

uncanny,

If you have an outbreak of genital herpes, you should NOT be putting your penis in anyone's mouth - at least not without a condom on. Not because of any risk to YOU, but because you will give the other person your herpes. Keep your herpes to YOURSELF!

Many of the rapid test kits are FDA approved for clinical and research use, but none are approved for over the counter sale, nor over the internet sale. Reasons being, they want to give you the counseling you need before and after the test, so you don’t scare yourself to death if you misinterpret your test results, or carelessly pass on the virus in case you are infected without knowing. And more importantly, to recommend you immediate treatments should you need it.

Here’s a list of commercially available rapid test, but you can’t buy from them, unless you are a health professional or a medical goods importer/exporter/supplier.

http://www.rapid-diagnostics.org/rti-hiv-com.htm

Here’s some more info from the CDC
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/testing/resources/journal_article/pdf/rapid_review.pdf

I have purchased a number of rapid test kits for myself and my partners over the internet.
And there are only a handful sites that have stood against the test of time(>1.5 years).

http://www.onestephivtest.com/ Quite reliable, has customer support but slow to respond, shipping can take while. (They deliver to the USA)
http://www.hiv-test-yourself.com/ Seem to have operated for the longest, most expensive too, however, no customer support the last time I tried.
http://Http://www.test-hiv-yourself.com/ A copy cat of HIV-test-yourself.com, no customer support, but they do deliver. They sell condoms too.

And my friend just showed me this website a few days ago, it gives out free test kits. I have requested a kit from them. The site also gives a short video info session too. Don’t know how long it would last though. Since they are giving away test kits that others are selling $20 to $25 for.

http://www.freerapidtest.com/

Once I get the kit from them. I will see if it’s good. I will let you guys know.

Wish, you shouldnt be posting in others threads.

wish,

You are in no position to give advice on this forum. I deleted your reply to "really". Your information was totally incorrect and we do not allow incorrect information to stand on this website. If you have a hiv transmission or testing concern of your own, please start your own thread to discuss it. Otherwise, do not post in the threads of others in this (Am I Infected) forum.

Please read the Welcome Thread before posting again. Thank you for your cooperation.

The tests you provide are not FDA approved.

The ONLY FDA test that can be bought in a shop or over the internet is Home Access. Various different companies sell the test, but if what they are selling isn't the Home Access test, don't buy it because it isn't approved.
