YUCKY!!! Worried Now
« on: February 06, 2007, 04:11:32 AM »
Hello everybody, I have an incident which causes some discomfort for me, so I decided to come here to inquire about it. At a recent event, there was a group of young laides pre-gaming and drinking a lot of alcohol, and afterwards I happened to pass by their cars when they had left and we were going into the event. There was a red cup on the ground full of foamy yellow fluid, so thinking it was leftover beer I took it up and sipped it. To my disgust, it was actually urine and I spit most of it out although a small amount had been swallowed. I know that urine is mostly sterile but I'm concerned because there was also a tampon wrapper near the area indicating some blood may have been in the urine as well. While I dropped the cup, some of the urine spilled over my hand, and I"m not sure if I had small cuts under my fingernails or not, as well as on my caluses on my palms. The bottom of the cup was unvisible because of the foam, but had toilet paper which had made small contact with the skin area over my lips and now I am a little bit worried. I have some acne which may have been popped earlier, but I'm pretty sure this is no-big deal. Would it be safe for me to forget about this incident and not get tested? Thanks a lot.

WORRIEDLV, before you ever post again read the "Welcome" thread, and go on transmission pages and read them. You are not going to get HIV from URINE.

However much the incident may have offended your sensibilities, you were absolutely not in any way at risk for HIV transmission.

This epidemic is going to be around for a longtime to come. As Rod suggested, you need to become better informed about the real risks as far as HIV is concerned. HIV is a fragile virus and is only transmitted in very particular ways. Read the lessons as he suggested. That way you will know how to protect your health and be spared the kind of unnecessary worrying you seem to be experiencing.

This time out you have no cause for concern about HIV and certainly no need for testing.

The other lesson here.  Dont pick up strange peoples garbage and try to drink it.   Its also a pretty good rule.

Thank you so much for the responses, as they have helped me relax tremendously. The only thing that keeps me a tad bit concerned is that on a website called CU:DR BETH and ASK ALICE they say that there is a theoretical risk from ingesting urine. Dr. Beth says that urine may have some white blood cells in it if its from a person with HIV, and ASK ALICE says the small traces of HIV sometimes found in urine pose a theoretical risk. At the most, I only swallowed 3 to 4 ounces, and it seemed as if there was no blood in it. Can I completely put this incident behind me despite the possible theoretical risks? Thanks a bunch.

worried,

In theory, you could walk outside your house right now and get hit by a meteorite. But that's not going to happen and neither are you going to be infected by drinking urine.

NO risk.

Thank you guys so much, you have been extremely helpful in alleviating my concerns. I hate to be a nuisance, but I just have one last quick question to ask of you guys to completely put my mind at ease. I've been reading a lot of posts from other websites including THE BODY.com with Dr. Bob's posts, and it seems that there is no risk from this incident, except if blood was present in the urine. It seemed to me that the urine was very dilute, as I had mistaken the light color for beer. There was no visible blood, but if there were minute amounts of blood in there that was so diluted that the color wasn't noticeable, would that pose a little bit of risk? Sorry for being a nuisance, but I just was afraid of how much blood would have had to be in the urine to be a risk. Thanks a lot, the only reason this is concerning is because I noticed the tampon wrappers nearby.

Please understand that is not my intention at all. I really do not wish to be a nuisance here, my apology.  Please could you just answer the small last bit of concern I had, I would really appreciate it and I think it would settle the small bit of worry ("what if") left in my mind, so I could really move on and get on with the important things in life.

Thank you all so much for your help. I now take it that even if blood were to be present, if its not visible then its highly diluted by the urine and uninfectious? I think I can put this behind me now and slowly put my life back on track.

Um, watersports is considered one of the SAFEST activities insofar as STD prevention is concerned. Drink all you want. You might get the occasional robust gonnorrhea of the throat, but thats about it. Certainly no HIV. Urine is essentially sterile.

And for what its worth, I dont buy the "I saw a cup on the ground" story. Methinks you partied on the wild side, and now regret your choice.

Nothing wrong with being a little bit of a freak. Just do the research and make informed choices.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Sorry to bug you guys again with a question involving urine, but this incident INVOLVES blood. I went to a private escort service lady tonight and requsted to watch her pee. As she squated down I laid flat on my stomach to get a better view, to my absolute horror, there was blood mixed in with her urine and I saw some of the blood on the ground in small patches. A little bit of the pee splashed onto my face since I was so low, and I can't feel exactly where the urine went, but I'm scared what if some went in my eye. I immediately checked the mirror and didn't see any blood on my face, and wiped my face with kleenex to see if there was any red. I didn't see any red, but am still afraid what if the tiny amount that splashed onto my face went into my eyes, nose, or mouth. Is there risk? I also sucked on her breasts, and she said she gave birth four months ago, but fortunately I didn't feel any milk come out so I hope this is no risk as well. So worried, please assess my risk level . She did say she is tested for STDs and safe, but can't really trust that.

Your "new question".  Whatever.  It is a rehash of your previous questions and has already been answered.

No, you weren't at risk for HIV from this.

Why?

You can find out from either the Lessons section, or heck...just read back up through this very own thread of yours.

I guess I'm a little bit naive, but the only reason I posted again was because of the presence of blood. I woudn't have been worried over a normal urine-play situation after the lessons.

Stop starting threads all over the place! Keep all of your comments in here.

Once again, as others have told you, there's absolutely no basis in HIV science for you to be concerned about this incident. Period.

As you already well know, there are certain very specific and limited ways in which HIV is transmitted sexually. A piss bath or any variations on it is not one of them, no matter how much blood is in it. Period.

Well, I've been doing a lot of research and have concluded that even if a small/miniscule of the bloody urine splashed into my eye unknowingly, the risk should be extremely low/nonexistent. However, I have found some articles about HIV transmission through the eye that says transmission has occured with droplets of serum from HIV patients going into the eye of healthworkers. This gets me worried, so I was wondering what is serum, and how could transmission occur from droplets. I thought it took substantial amounts of blood splash to the eye to cause infection. Please just clear this up for me so I can get past it and get on with my life. I must focus on my final exams at school this week, but this keeps bothering me. I am typing this up at my university library as I speak. Your assistance is MUCH APPRECIATED!

Here is a link to what scared me, its a search page but look at what under first two finds: Transmission of hiv by a single drop of serum into one eye has been reported in at least one case.

Worried, you are torturing yourself to no good purpose in the land of what ifs. We know from years of experience what the basic risky activities are in relation to HIV transmission. And here you are working yourself into a state about something that is essentially theoretical as a risk and which you are not even certain happened!

Time to close shop on this and if you can't then I suggest you see a therapist or other similar professional to discuss the emotional aspects of what is going on and really driving this concern on your part. No matter what your mind is coming up with to the contrary nor what you unwisely search out on the net, this is not an HIV situation. Period.

Hi everybody, hope you have all been doing well. For the past three months I have often been tormented by fear due to this incident, and assaulted by a bunch of "what ifs." I was afraid that the fact I did facesitting before getting splashed in my eye would have made me more susceptible to infection since she weighed down on my eyes, but today I decided to get the HOME ACCESS 3 day test. Until now I have just kept repeatedly reading this thread and the one from Dr. Bob who called my incident "negligible" to calm my fears. I would like to really close shop on this incident and hope to get my test result by Tuesday, thanks a lot to all who contributed and helped keep my worries in check.

NEW QUESTION
« Reply #32 on: February 22, 2008, 11:43:27 PM »
Hi guys, last night I went to an escort service and requested the girl to pee in a cup. She only had to go very little, about 3oz or less, but the urine was pretty dark. It wasn't TOO dark, but darker than usual, probably comparable to the color of black tea at Starbucks. For about 15 minutes, I swished and gargled it around in my mouth, trying not to swallow any, so only a miniscule amount was swallowed if any. I kept spitting it out. I know that urine does not pose a risk, but I was wondering that because of the strange color, if there happened to be any blood in it, would it cause a risk through the mucous membranes in my mouth? How much blood must be present in the urine to have caused a risk? The urine wasn't red or pink, but just dark, maybe very slightly orangish or murky. I am trying not to start myself from entering a cycle of worry, thanks a lot for any help guys! I initially wasn't worried, but I read a post by Dr. Bob at "The Body" website stating that getting blood in the mouth poses a risk.

There may have been blood in this charming beverage or there may not have been. In any case (blood or otherwise) it wasn't a risk for the transmission of HIV and you don't need to test.

Dark urine, whilst having nothing to do with HIV can be a symptom of acute viral hepatitis.

Be well, :)

So even though it was held in my mouth for a period of time (probably total or 30 seconds or less) and I wasn't able to rinse out my mouth with water for at least 20 mins, I don't have to worry about contracting HIV through the mucous membranes in the mouth, if it happened to be contaminated by red or white blood cells? Thanks!

It wouldn't make any difference. You were not at risk. You don't need to test for HIV because you gargled someone's whiz.

You're succeeding in convincing me that you need to see a therapist or similar professional to discuss your undue concerns about HIV transmission as intertwined with your sexual activities. This is yet another non-risk situation as Matty has told you.

Hi everybody, I took a HOME ACCESS test and just had a quick question. I drew the blood from my fingers which bled easily because of keloids. A couple of weeks ago I had cortisone injections into those keloids, and now I am curious whether the cortisone would affect the results of the test? Since cortisone is an immunosuppressive, would it eliminate HIV antibodies in my blood from the keloids so that the test wouldn't be able to detect any?

No, the test result would not be skewered by your cortisone injection(s).

Worried,

You were never at risk for hiv in the first place, as you have been repeatedly told. Urine is not an infectious fluid - even if there's some blood in it.

Keep coming back with these urine-based questions and your account will be suspended as we don't seem to be getting through to you. Perhaps it's time to seek counseling to discover why you keep engaging in activities that cause you so much anxiety. We cannot help you with that here.
