OY! A Wee Bit 'O Kvetching....
« on: January 18, 2007, 10:50:09 PM »
So anyways, I've been thinking a lot lately, which at times can be frightening indeed. I realize that I have a bunch of things that are on my mind that have been bothering me a bit. So if nobody minds, I like to kvetch a bit please. I promise I'll pretty much stick to the basics, drama ain't really my thing.
First Kvetch. I need to get my shit together, and be a better partner for Norm. I've been pretty clueless about a lot of things, and need to get seriously better at being a husband. I would like to make a public apology to him here and now. I promise to be the man you deserve. I love you....
Silver Lining) Doing the self improvement thing. Never a bad idea.
Second Kvetch. I want to scream because I am so disgusted with the war in Iraq, and the incestuous nest of vipers that is the Bush administration. Period. I don't think I need to go into detail here, the reasons being somewhat obvious.
Silver Lining: At least the Bush Administration has given me a reason to beat the cancer as well as the HIV. I want to outlive them so's I can piss on their graves when they's dead.
Second Kvetch. Cancer. Sort've a bummer, y'know? And the Cancer Treatment Center here is in the top 50 nationwide. Funny, I can't tell from where I'm standing. Having the doctor show up in my cubicle three hours late for our appointment is NOT the way to start gaining a patients trust. Especially when said doc is the one that's going to cut you open.... They were supposed to call me two weeks ago with the appointment for my surgery to remove the tumor. Nada so far.
Silver Lining: a) the other doctor I've met with have commented about how great condition especially for someone with the medical stuff going on. b) I got a survey from the cancer center today, and I get to be a total bitch about it and be justified. Who could ask for anything more?
c) Much to the horror of several people around me, I have decided to name my tumor Timmy. Timmy the Tumor. Imagine their reactions when I start referring to my resection surgery as an abortion.
Third Kvetch) HIV see above heading, first comment.
Silver Lining: Realizing that there is a Sci-Fi movie going on in my very own body. Really. It's like Alien versus Predator, seriously. The cancer is the Alien. It's stupid in a scary way, kills everything in it's path, and travels through the ducts to pop up somewhere else, and then kill everything there too. The HIV is the Predator. It's likes to kill as well. But it is smarter, and prefers the thrill of the hunt. The Predator also knows that it has enemies that are capable of killing it, so it has covert capabilities. The cancer, like the Alien knows nothing of the sort. Like I said, it's kinda dumb. I can't help but wonder if we'll ever see it on the Big Screen? I bet with the right digital effects, It would make a killer IMAX movie. Especially on mushrooms. AvPII. Who would play me? Comedy or Drama? Indie or Big Production? Enquiring minds want to know.....
Fourth Kvetch) About a week or so ago, I was doing the dishes at home. out of the blue, I realized that I was scared of the cancer for the first time. It lasted for ten minutes roughly, and then it was gone. An unwelcome visitor. It has returned a few times since then, but never for more than a few minutes. But those few minutes can last a really long time if you know what I mean. I know that this is normal. But it's also annoying as hell. Truly. I'll be working along minding my own business when all of a sudden...WHAM!! upside the head. And there I'll be having to maintain while a gaggle of college babes troops by blathering on about poor Kevin Federline, and that heartless wife of his. Seems she fancies herself a singer, and was one of the dancers in one of his critically acclaimed rap videos.  I feel so shallow and selfish for being upset when there are people like that out there who have genuine problems.
Silver Lining: I see this as a good test for me. See, I believe that, as eastern philosophies teach, that everything is temporary. And since everything is temporary, no use getting too caught up in it, 'cuz it won't last. And to remember too that this includes the good things in life as well. This will test my abilities to keep this perspective, and in the end strengthen them. With that in mind, this is a positive experience in it's own way. Or maybe I'm just too dumb to know I'm supposed to be freaking out. No brain, No pain? Only time will tell.

Well that's it kiddies. No more Kvetching. I promise. Thanks for letting me vent in my own way.
Love, Peace, and a Bitchin' T-Cell count to you all, Capt.Carl

Love the 'Alien vs. Predator' analogy.. as well as 'Timmy" ,
I think people who haven't dealt with HIV or Cancer dont quite get the way we use Gallows Humor
to take some of the edge off.
Just thinking about the Timmy character from Southpark puts a grin on my face...

Hey Carl,
Love the "Predator vs. Alien" analogy. It works for me.

Keep on kvetching.

Wow.....that's Kvetching?  It sounds like a class in Philosophy 310.  You've put a lot of thought into it, that's for sure.  I only wish I could do the same.  IF you don't mind, I'm going to borrow  Alien v. Predator.   A good friend of mine is undergoing intensive cancer therapy (stomach) right now and we're always doing the compare and contrast thing.  But you've reconfirmed one of my worst fears.  I saw the movie "ALIEN" and have never been so totally disgusted.  Now I guess that's the way I'll always look at cancer.

Let's just say that for someone who has every right to be Kvetching, you are definitely in control of your own.

Best of luck, for the best possible outcome.

I'd hardly call your post kvetching.  Thoughtful expressions of very real concerns is more like it.

Kvetching would be if you were whining about having to wait 2 more weeks for your new Mercedes or something equally trivial.

Kvetch away!

P.S.  God luck with permanently getting rid of Timmy!
