transit travel via usa
« on: January 13, 2007, 09:44:03 AM »
Hello chatters and Happy New Year
I'm travelling abroad soon due to a work contract (Feb - April ) and will be located in countries that have no entry ban for HIV+ travellers. That part is great. Problem is part of my route requires me to transit via USA (twice) with a one day/night stop in two US cities. A friend did pass through USA recently en route to Canada however his stopover was a few hours and he stayed in the transit section. For me I am leaving the airport and staying in a hotel with my co-workers (i.e not in transit lounge). My HIV Centre informs me I cannot apply for a HIV waiver as my work is for non academic, non family or non humanitarian reasons.  Usually I would carry my pills with me on such prolonged trips however (a) I do not want to risk serious reprisals just for a short stop-over and (b) cannot risk posting them ahead of myself as I am at various locations and/or out at sea. Tricky to say the least! Would like to hear of any "recent" and/or similar experiences regarding short transit US stays. Much appreciated.

Hi Hudstar,
The regulations have been relaxed just recently. You can read all about it in a thread in the Gatherings Forum.
You should have no problems, as you are only staying in a couple of cities as part of your overall itinerary.
I think you will be just fine.

PS....I'd provide the link, but I'm not very talented in the link department.
