Rough morning
« on: December 14, 2006, 12:40:25 PM »

I feel really shitty right now.   Last night I did something I know I should not have and now I am paying for it.   Let me back track just a little though...

I met a really nice woman last weekend and we have been spending time together on a daily basis.    What she sees in me is hard for me to see, but that will be a whole other issue for another thread.   I know she likes me a lot and I am falling for her too.   Well last night she spent the night over (no  sex yet)..  I cooked us a really great meal and once we got Gabby to bed we took our meds and decided to go to sleep ourselves.    I was telling her of my sleeping problems and how I was going to see if my doctor would give me something for it.   She said that she took lexapro before going to sleep and that it helped her sleep like a baby.   That was about 9pm.   After spending three hours watching her sleep like a baby, I asked if I could try one and if it worked would know what to ask for when I see my doc on the 30th.   I took one and within an hour started sweating profusely...  That was about 12 am.   At 6 am she started to get ready for work and noticed I was soaking wet.   She woke me up and I could not get out of the bed.   I knew I was about to put on a puke fest and told her to get the garbage can.   I passed out and when I woke up she was standing there crying and I had three paramedics standing over me.   It must have been a great first impression for her, no matter what she says I feel so bad for her missing the first three hours of a job she has only worked at for 3 months.   It's a good one too!  She's an engineer and I'm unemployed trying to get on disability, some match huh?   I hope I have not caused her any problems.

Back to the paramedics...  I told them I was HIV+ , about the meds and what I did.   I told them I was OK and that I just wanted to sleep.  They had me sign a form... I guess some sort of release stating I did not want them taking me.   That was about 3 hours ago and my friend is just now making it to work.

I took the atripla at about 9 pm.  I hope it was already in my system when I vomited this morning.  I know the rice I ate last night wasn't.   Right now I am very groggy and weak...  Scared to put anything on my stomach  because it feels unsettled.   I feel like I lost some weight too..

I also wonder if she will want to pursue anything with someone in my predicament. Someone still trying to adjust to life with HIV, not to mention the other problems.   She is such a sweety and it feels so good having someone around.   The last 4 days I have felt so alive and now I am just bummed out.   I hope everything is going to be OK at her job.

   Thomas

I know it was stupid to take the lexapro... I think it was a low dosage (had the # 20 on it).

Tom, I only take 1/2 a 20mg tablet per day. I guess you would be a little groggy. You do know that those of us that take that are fucked up? Just wanted you to know.  ;)

Tom, well an unexpected experience like that either bonds or finishes things off. Sounds like she was very decent about it all and you guys have something cooking.

I suggest you give your doc a call just to check in about the incident, any recommendations for the future, etc. Also, does your doc know you're having trouble sleeping?

Very glad you made it through ok.

Cheers,

Tom,
I'm sorry to hear about your incident, as well as the impression you felt it left.  She seems to understand, though.  The past few nights I've taken Atripla IMMEDIATELY before I go to bed.  I generally go to sleep fairly quickly anyway so I try not to give the Atripla time to start it's shit.  Last night, I ate a smallish snack (mashed potatoes) right before taking it and it seemed to delay the insomnia effect quite a bit. I woke up 6 hours later feeling like my pre-HIV self.  I think it really takes some work to manage these side effects.

As to your 'friend', she seems like she's handling it ok.  At least she's a decent enough person to call paramedics and wait there while they checked things out, despite being late to work.  That says a lot abour her, to me.  I think a date this weekend might be in order to sort of feel out the situation.  Good luck with it all.

Paul- if you were about to give me advice on relationships I can still use it..lol ;)

Andy- I was thinking the same thing.   I better give my doctor a call.

David- The first week when I was eating after taking it I seemed to sleep better.    She text   messaged me a little while ago and said maybe we should do something lite tonight like a salad and chicken.  It has really felt good not being alone this last few days.   I have told her I really don't have anything to offer other than myself and she told me that's all she expects.... we shall see.   I am very guarded when it comes to these things.   Last thing I want is a broken heart or to hurt her...    Time will tell, but right now things look good.

   Thanks guys for the replies.

I felt absolutely horrible and extremely weird for the first two weeks on Lexapro.  I think many people have problems the first few days on ADs.

Hey Thomas. First, "what Andy Velez said." Second, (my 2 cents) and please take this the right way but some people can see potential in someone right away, meaning they know quality when they see it and she might see your potential, and the good potential in a possible deep friendship with you, that sort of thing. You know some people have the mindset of "What you see is what you get" and she doesn't seem to be that type. ...... Sending well-wishes honey - She sounds like she's gonna open your eyes to good stuff about yourself

Edited to add: Many women are experts in nurture and she might be in that category (Straight men the world over should rejoice in my humble opinion but anyway)

Thomas, sorry to here about the medical mess you had last night. :)  I'm glad that you were able to get past it and that your woman friend seems to have neither suffered via work or suffered via sleeping with you since she wants to be with you again tonight.  Wow, isn't it amazing what some people find as acceptable and others couldn't even read about?

For anyone simply reading this, please, please do NOT ever take someone else's medication.  Let me repeat, please, please do NOT take someone else's medication.  If it's of interest to you, contact your healthcare provider first and only take something then prescribed in your name (since the actual dose may vary based on your current medications).  IF something like what happened to Thomas occurs to you, once you have pulled out of it, contact your healthcare provider with the details.  Do not take your regular medications until they have been cleared by him or by her.  It's easy, I know, to think, 'ok, I felt really, really sick, but now I feel better.'  Don't stop with that.  Make sure he or she knows what happened.  As Andy picked up, then make sure that he or she knows the WHY you did what you did since he or she may have a solution which will work.  Yes, being certified in medication administration is playing a role in this reply. :) Win

Just be the best you possible, and you may have a winner on your hands! She sounds like a decent woman. She sees what we see.

You did mention that you two 'took our meds' , so I assumed she was also positive. She may have seen alot more than last nites episode. And she can see past it.

*sigh*
Taking other peoples meds = bad
Taking other peoples anti-depressants = really bad.
Taking other peoples anti-depressants while sleeping with a woman you haven't had sex with yet = really really bad.
Taking other peoples anti-depressants while sleeping with a woman you haven't had sex with yet and she is coming back even though you puked all over her and scared the shit out of her = AWESOME!

Don't do it again, and good luck with the new girl.

Win- I totally agree and feel a little foolish for making the mistake.

Alex- you always have a way of putting things in perspective.  Thanks man!

AC/KC- Oh trust me I want to, but at the same time I want to do this differently.   I told her I want to be at the point of telling her I love her and not have it be because of sex...  I don't know if I am making sex...ooops I mean sense ;)..

Jack- your on AD's?   I was on paxil at one time and that worked great... except for NO HARD ONS..   can't have that!

Paul yes she is positive ;D

I am feeling a little better than earlier and left a message with my doctor, but she has not called back yet.

She's coming back because she knows what the rest of us know; you're a great guy.  You're a keeper, as they say.  And it says the same about here.  Again, as they say, it takes one to know one.

Soup and Salad?  Perfect.  A little soft music, dim the lights, and get under a blanket and stay warm.  Better than chicken soup any day.

Hello Thomas…

There is a reason that you and this new woman in your life has met. Take the time out to understand this as she has already demonstrated the type of woman she is. AWESOME!

Everyone else has touched on the do’s and don’ts and I shall not reiterate them. Your body is still adjusting to the meds. If the problems do continue to persist, by all means check-in with your Doctor. Take care of YOU!

BTW – Your new friend woman too!

Thomas,
Don't scare us like that again!! Grinch really summed it up pretty well, and funny too.

Talk to your doctor about the sleep problems, there are things that can help. And put Lexapro on your allergy list.

I couldn't take Lexapro either, had a weird reaction too.

I hope things go well with your new friend. Thank her for taking care of you this morning!
