David_NC spending a few days in the hospital
« on: November 30, 2006, 01:16:08 pm »
Hey Folks,

I hope I do this right, this is my first posting to 'Start New Topic'

After a sinus infection, taking some antibiotics and not feeling better David_NC goes to the Dr. Wednesday 4:00PM EST. 2 hours later he's on IV antibiotics, 02, and hooked up to lots of beeping things. Everything we've been through these last months has really hit home. I really lost it about 1am when I came home, opened the bottle of Atripla, broke the foil seal and took out what looked like the biggest pill I have ever seen. I had been waiting so we could start the therapy together. We do everything together. He's my best friend and husband. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers and I/We will keep you updated.

Hi David:

Well crap!  I hope whatever is going on gets resolved fast--damn fast!

Please tell David I'm thinking of him and hope he gets well soon.  And just as importantly make sure you are taking care of yourself too.  I can only imagine the kind of stress this is producing.

I will be keeping the two of you in my thoughts and hope for good news coming soon.

You both have friends here, don't hesitate to lean on us.

David -

I am sorry to hear that David_NC is going through this right now.  From what I know of him on here, it's really unexpected.  I hope the IV's will lead to a speedy recovery and that the anti-virals you've started are a success.  I remember crying when I picked up my three month supply of meds from Fed Ex for the first time.  The box was so friggin big, heavy for its content and rattled like crazy.  That part gets much easier fortunately.

D,

Hang in there. I know that David was dealing with anxiety problems. This sudden illness to come on so fast is really scary.

I don’t know David but from what he post, he as well as you seem to be pretty stable people. All my best for a full and fast recovery.

Both Davids,

I have been thinking about you both because David NC said you would both be beginning meds after Thanksgiving.  I know this is a big step (took it myself last May)...but its an important step to start rebuilding your immune systems.  Think of all that has happened to you both in the last year...but more importantly that commitment you sealed together in August.  I am so proud of both of you.

Please keep us informed.  I hope David will get out of the hospital soon.  We will all be interested in supporting you as you begin your therapy.

God bless you both!

Just want to wish David NC a quick recovery. You didn't say what the cause of his troubles was, but I hope it's identified and corrected very quickly.

I also wish both of you the best of luck in your new drug regimen. That Atripla pill is big, but at least it's just once a day.

Damn !

Rotten news.

Here's hoping they quickly determine what's going on and get David on the road to a speedy recovery.

Don't forget to practice good hand hygiene while at the hospital.  Frequent hand washing, Purell wipes, and the like.  MRSA/ORSA and VRE are endemic at NHRMC, and those with weakened immune systems are the ones who are most at risk.  Handwashing/surface disinfection can go a long way in keeping these nasties out of your life.

Hope David gets well soon.

Hey,

Tomorrow is a bronchosopy to find out the details, unless I start hocking up some samples.  I’m not alone with all my loved ones, family and friends that are bringing me REAL food, other goodies and maybe some mini bottles tomorrow night."

Yep, my id Dr. practically admitted to the hospital before I got back upstairs from having labs drawn.  It is very hard to type while on Klonopin and with a pulse-02 monitor on my finger, so I appologize from the rambling and typo's!  I had the bronchoscopy this morning, but somehow didn't get the order for a sample!  Hopefully, I won't have to do it again.

Three good things have come from this experience for me:
 1) my mom naturally came by and I explained to her that I likely had PCP.  She was kind of surprised that I would get such a thing.  I explained that it generally occurs in HIV+ people.  I think what upset her the most was that I had not told her sooner.  I told her that I thought that was the root of mot of my anxiety and panic attacks.  We discussed it a bit, told her about treatment, my insurance coverage, and that most ov my issues would likely be from the treatment itself, at least for the foreseeable future.  Things ended fairly cheerfully and up-beat.

2) she asked me if there was anything else I wanted to 'confess' in her usual dry humor.  I asked her what she had in mind but she said she's leave it up to me.  The only other thing I could think of was that I've never mentioned that D & I have had motorcycles for a little over two years.  She didn't seem really shocked, as I think a friend kind of slipped up on that one a while back.

3) I finally feel I'm actually ACCEPTING that I am HIV+ and not just acknowledging it while putting it in the back of my mind and ignoring it.  I think this will also help with the anxiety and panics.

I want to say thanks for the positive, cheerful posts and comments.  You guys / gals are truly like family.  The fun part tonight was that 4 friends and hubby came by for a small 'party'.  They had smuggled in a bottle of nice red wine, cheese and crackers, and other snacks, so it was a good day.

I can't type anymore but will update when possible.  Thanks all and take care.

Thank you so much, David NC, for taking the time out to update us, especially with the really personal news about disclosure to your mother, her responses and then yours.  You have not only taken the step to let a family member in, but all of us here as well.  Lot's of steps in the mental healing which, I hope, will be followed by physical healing and quick recovery and no more 'procedures' during the holidays! Great to hear from you directly, David.

Sounds like out of this unsought hospital stay you have made lemonade with your Mom and wine, cheese, etc. with some good friends.

Way to go! Hope you're home soon with that great guy of yours.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

D&D

So glad to hear things are turning around quickly, health, wealth of family, support of a loving husband surely helps!!

I wanted to pass along something a friend of mine taught me about her ATRIPLA pill--yes, it looked large to her, too. THen, she put it next to her daily multi-vitamin and they are the same size. It helped her adjust to its size quickly.

I'm glad for the two of you that you'll have each other and improving health as we move into the holidays.

Good Morning David   ;D

Good to see you have cracked the hospital wireless safe and posting.

Bronchoscopy huh?  Not fun those, but at least they put you under while it's going on.

Hopefully the diagnosis will be conclusive and they can begin sorting all this out.  (Make sure they also rule out the possibility of a Pulmonary Embolism (sp?)--blood clot in the lung--that's if it isn't PCP)

Sounds like you're getting great care and there is a lot of "healing" going on on so many other important levels.  I'm thinking of both of you and wish you a speedy recovery.

Love you guys,

RAB

What Andy Velez said!

And in the near future we trust you'll update us about those panic attacks getting less frequent ....or maybe even going away  :)  :)  :)

Sending love,
Alex

Dearest D&D,

You two have no idea how much we treasure your friendship.  The four of us share a very special date and that is a bond that will last forever.

David, get well soon and David don't forget to take care of yourself while you take care of that wonderful husband of yours.

Please keep us posted.  Love and hugs to you both, R&T

David_NC

So glad to hear your feeling better.  Mom may have seemed surprise but she probably already knew.  Don't know how but my mom did.  I told my mom a sneaky way, I called her up on the phone and told her when I knew she had a house full of people.  I was 1,000 miles away.  She came right up.  She was also more supportive than I thought she would be.

Your mom will be there for you too.  You'll be amazed at how close the 2 of you will become now, even more than you were before.

Hug your hubby and keep your spirits up,  you'll be home in no time.

Love and Light,

Rev. Michael

David and David,

I have been thinking about you both and checking the forum more often than usual for updates.  It was great to see David's post a bit earlier.  I suspect this has a lot to do with those panic attacks... and so some real healing can now begin.  With all the pettiness that sometimes happens on these forums, it is good for us to remember the real life-sustaining support that happens here.  You have friends on numerous continents throughout the world pulling for you!

I will continue to keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
