Friends - lookin for one or two
« on: August 14, 2014, 10:58:14 AM »
Single, unwed, no children 35 years young and looking for friends male or female but I really need female friendship. Living in South Florida and is interested in finding a few friends like me. I tried starting a female support group or just a female group that we all get together talk and hangout but didn't get any response. I contacted females in the poz personal and also place in the forums with no  response. The area that I do live in do not have any, I've contacted CAP and all the different agencies also google online with no help. I'm not the type of person that will communicate back and forth from a computer. Nope. :-\  I sit in front of a computer all day from 8-6 (job) and I just can't do it when I get home. I'm more of the in person type and I need to get out the house. I see myself heading down a certain path that I'm fighting myself not to go. I've been dealing with this for at least 13 years and it seems like the days with coping is just getting harder.  I just want a friend like me who will understand and know we deal with on a day to day basis. I don't want to pretend either I want to be myself around people.

Hi Cerise,
I see you've been posting about this for some time.  But, I don't believe you've really told us much about yourself.  I've only seen where you've told us your stats.  Why don't you tell us about yourself, besides being single with no kids?

I've been poz for at least 25 years.  Some days are harder to deal with than others.  One thing I tell myself, and it doesn't work all the time, is that everything seems to pass, albeit slow sometimes.

Have you ever contacted your nearest ASO to see about any support groups, or perhaps buddy programs?  That may help you in trying to meet others and getting out of the house.  Good luck and please tell us more!

Betty

Hello,

I am a 36 year young and newly separated from my spouse headed towards divorce (unfortunately). I have no children and no one knows my status other then my soon to be ex-husband who is currently my best friend. I have been living with HIV since the age of 24 and am hoping to meet friends, survivors, positive people to share this journey with. It would be nice to be able to have girl talk and look forward to reading some of your posts.

I just relocated to Montgomery, Alabama from Kansas City, Missouri this past Sunday and do not have reliable transportation. I am totally dependent on my mother and sister to get me from A to B and like I said, I have not disclosed my status. That being said, I am able to join any social groups that could be supportive to me right now.

I live in the Kansas City area, used to live in Oklahoma City and am originally from Iowa.  I had a really good support group of friends via my church in OKC so it was really hard when I moved from there and took quite a while to find close friends again.  I found mine thru a church that I finally found and even then it took a while as I'm not very outgoing and when you get older it seems to take a little longer, or maybe it's just me.  Anyway, some of my friends know and some don't.  Those that do are very caring and supportive, however I don't deal with any HIV related health issues so it kind of causes them to even forget I'm positive. That can be good and bad, cause sometimes when you're wanting to express what it's like to have a bad or negative day about being positive they just don't get it.  So anyway, I would think there would be support groups at least in larger areas, but have never tried looking for one here.  Actually I take that back, I did when I first got here and looked into doing some volunteer work in a couple organizations to help those that are positive, but it just never panned out.  I even went to a women's group thing for a tiny bit, but our backgrounds were so very different it was really hard to relate except for that we were all positive and the meeting locations were always in a bad area of the city and at night which didn't feel safe enough to keep going.  I've been fortunate to be able to work full time all these years and keep busy that way.  I'm so glad I found this forum when researching taking the new med triumeq.  It helps to be able to at least check the forum and chat a bit here and there on different topics.  I know the feeling of needing someone to chat with in person Cerise and am hoping you find someone somehow to do that with.  At least this forum is available until you do, even tho I agree when you're on a computer all day long it's the last thing you want to do when you get home.
