Certainly a wunderkind, a gorgeous and alluring presence in those 1940's films. And then again quite watchable in her "legendary" dowager years, when many who worked with her said she was often a mean and angry person.   The 50's through the 70's on film - meh.

Even at her most glamorous she always seems to me like the clever hard-working Brooklyn girl next door Betty Perske rising higher and higher but still with her feet on the sidewalk.  This tough cookie!  Why to me she was so endearing.  ;D

In the early 70's CBS-tv did a version of "Applause," for which she had won her first Tony award.  Here's a number where she visits a "gay nightclub," which was very novel for circa 1973.  For those who don't know, "Applause" was the Broadway musical adaption of the classic film, "All About Eve."  Enjoy:
