HELP! Starting treatment. Many questions....
« on: July 29, 2014, 09:31:13 AM »
Hello, I was diagnosed with hiv seven months ago and it is time for me to start treatment. I am going to start taking Prezista (800 mg), norvir(100mg) and kivexa. I am from Greece and the doctors here aren't always available to answer to all your pressing questions due to the amount of the patients. I wonder about the side effects and especially LIPODYSTROPHY, I want to prevent this from happening if it is possible. My doctor told me that we cannot tell who is going to have lipodystrophy and who isn't.
Is there anyone who knows more about this?Or anyone who takes the same meds? What kind of side effects can I expect? And one last thing: I am starting meds tomorrow and the doctor told me that the next blood test will be on October. Does this make sense? Am I not supposed to have some blood tests prior to October in order to know if the meds are working? Thank you in advance and please HELP ME.

Hi there. Your doc is right it is hard to tell who will get lipo from who won't but giving the treatment you will receive it is very unlikely. So don't panic. I thought the same as you as I started.
Usually a blood test is made after a month to check if your body copes with the therapy ... So either you tell ur doc see u next month or you pop up and and have him make it.
Take care.

The chances of developing lipo on this regimen is exceedingly low. I would not worry about it.

This is a standard first-line recommended treatment on the National Institutes of Health list in the US.

I am taking my fist pills in the next 2 hours, kind of nervous... Ah, one more irrelevant thing I'd like to ask is if one can communicate through private messages with other members in this forum. ;)

Well,no major side effects till now, just some diziness. But I'd like to ask some ideas on how to hide the pills and keep my family from noticing that I am on treatment. My parents notice everything about me and sometimes look at my stuff.I am visiting them these days.Any ideas?

If you are concerned about your parents seeing your medications, you could get some vitamin bottles and transfer the pills into them.  That way, your folks will think you are taking vitamins, until you are ready to tell them you are poz.
