HIV/AIDS and mental illness
« on: July 05, 2014, 08:41:02 PM »
I don't know what to do. I had severe hallucinations 2 months ago: thought the government was after me, thought there was a lady chained in my attic, thought the t.v. was talking to me, in general, lots of crazy ideas. The state kept me under observation for over a week, while there I tested positive for hiv; my viral load turned out to be over 1 million, cd count was 1. HIV Dr. put me on haart meds, but they are not helping my mental issues, blood work is only slightly improving, the pych doctor put me on antidepressants but i had to get off them because they weren't helping me, i cried alot on the antidepressants and couldn't focus, etc. The MRI was normal. I've been out of work for 2 months and have already applied for a medical leave of absence twice, I'm worried about going back to work, my job requires incredible concentration, which i have not regained back, a month ago i did go back to work for one day but i had to clock out half way through the day because I could not focus on helping the customers. What should I do? Should I just go back to work and try to perform my job? What if I get fired for not being able to concentrate? Should I just level with h.r. and see if they will lay me off due to my health conditions? A different person's perspective on what I should do would be much, much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums . Im sorry you are having such a tough time . You didn't say in your post if you have been suffering from any mental illness prior to this hullicinations but I was wondering if your doctors checked you out for Syphilis ? ... if left untreated it can cause those kinds of CNS issues . Best of luck and Welcome .
