New Job...Bloody Jackpot, at last!
« on: June 10, 2014, 10:11:43 PM »
I was forced to change jobs last year. The facility I was working for changed administration and the new admins loved me…but thought they should eliminate my position (and my pay) by shoving me off and letting another company under the same corporation take over some of the duties. One day they said “Would you like to apply for this new position?” No thanks…the next day they said “Your position is most likely going away; are you sure you don’t want to apply for this new position?”

So I ended up in the new position, doing much the same as I was before, only they moved me to another hospital because I was so embedded as the face of my department I could have never done the new duties and fielded the old ones and succeeded at doing anything.

I was miserable. Shortly after moving to the new facility, I was diagnosed with that damn tumor and had to have super-invasive surgery. By the time Jan (anniebc) and Jen came to visit me and Santi in July, I was at my wit’s end. I have to be the face of the department all the time, work set hours and deal with dour physicians who are bitter because they used to own the hospital and then my corporation bought them out. Thank the Lord, after Jan and Jen visited, my attitude improved immensely.

But I’ve still been miserable, for the reasons stated above. Love my boss, hate what I’m doing. Little did I know that when I was moved to the new position, my boss and her boss (whom I’ve worked with for more than a decade) never planned for me to stay in that role.

In April, a position came open and they asked me to apply. I did, with the encouragement of my boss.

To sum up, I interviewed, I peed in a cup, I was offered and accepted the job. The position is in another city, but I will office from home. Finally, a place to hang my diploma, and decide myself if it meets code! And after I get comfortable, I can basically work in my PJs unless I have a video conference.

This will start at the end of the month. Minus my visit with Lady Gaga in Las Vegas in mid-July, I will spend a few days a week in San Antonio for some training during July and August. Who needs a margarita in late afternoon? I can think of one friend I haven’t seen in a year, and another since way before then!  :)

Please make arrangements...we will put you up in both cities, you will only have to be quiet in the morning at my house while I work, other than that we just have to stay sober enough to greet Santi when he gets home... ;)

Congrats, C.!  very glad to hear it.

Wishing you the best of luck!  Working from home always sounded GREAT to me, I begged them to let me when I was an Auditor for the State of Georgia (and very ill with AIDS at the time) but the bitch that ran the office said "HELL NO".   A year-and-a-half later, practically the whole office was doing it.   Oh well, I outlived her mean butt.  ;)

Hope this works out WONDERFULLY for you!

So glad everything turned out well.  Working from home has it advantages.  When I worked at the Air Base, I basically had the ability to work mostly from home but chose to go into the office.  I'm not too disciplined.  :)  I had a video conference once that I forgot about and already had a few glasses of wine by the time I remembered.

Again, congrats.
