HBD2Me! Celebrating when I thought I wouldn't again...
« on: May 09, 2014, 01:18:13 PM »
It's funny.

Four months ago, I was ready to throw in the towel. I was afraid of my future and what could or couldn't be so. I thought my future was now defined as an HIV+ life: Medication. Awkward conversations. Negative reactions. Infections. Uncomfortable death. Cold. Alone.

Amazingly, with all of my vast knowledge of the virus, this is where my mind initially went. I thought everything that I didn't accomplish would no longer be attainable, and I was done.

But over time (with a LOT of thanks to you glorious men and women) I learned that my life doesn't have to be worse. In fact, I'm getting a lot better. Working out more. Using positive reinforcement and prayer. Paying attention to my health. Reading up on medications and most importantly I am looking forward to my future. Especially now, because as of May 1st, I crossed a milestone! MY 25th BIRTHDAY!

I thought I would dread that day, but honestly, it was a great week! My college roommate got married the following day, and I'm spending my vacation time in my favorite city (NEW ORLEANS!) with my friends and makeshift family. Some know about the infection, some don't. Either way, I am so privileged to be alive. And ironically enough, I am so glad that I KNOW my status either way. I got tested often but it's good to really know.

Now I have a lot of questions, but the great thing is you lovely people are NOT afraid to answer them! No matter how cray-cray they may sound... and trust I have a few.

So thank you POZ.com. You gave me the best, most loving present I could ask for. You gave me back my sanity (or the little bit I had before lol).

Happy Birthday! :D

I was in the hospital on my 36th and 38th birthdays and was supposed to have died both times. Since I didn't die either of those times, I always been incredibly happy and grateful to have made it another year. . .

. . . . well that is until I hit 52 back in March and now have to check off that I'm in the "over 50" category. :o ::) ;D

Best wishes on the next 25, 50, 75 yrs worth of birthdays!
