Tatiana Maslany of Orphan Black talks about Struwwelpeter

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Struwwelpeter

Struwwelpeter is a 19thC German collection of cautionary tales for children.

"Struwwelpeter" describes a boy who does not groom himself properly and is consequently unpopular.

In "Die Geschichte vom bösen Friederich" (The Story of Bad Frederick), a violent boy terrorizes animals and people. Eventually he is bitten by a dog, who goes on to eat the boy's sausage while he is bedridden.

In "Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug" (The Dreadful Story of the Matches), a girl plays with matches and burns to death.

and so on and so on. It kind of cracking me up and scaring me how German it is.   ;D

I like Orphan Black.  I like Orange is the New Black, too.  Both back on air soon.

__________

Back to the german theme.

Well i have some close German friends and this is an endlessly fascinating culture.

Its funny cause I live in French-speaking Switzerland and this culture mostly turns its back on German and Germanophone culture.

Not true for the German-speaking Swiss.  The Francophones mostly don't speak German very well, if at all. None of francophone friends read german newspapers, watch german or german-swiss TV, go to german movies, read german novels.

But the Germans are more willing to be genuinely multicultural and those who speak french and/or Italian speak it really well.  In addition to perfect English, too, of course.

I loved how when Conan was being creepy she would lean away from him on the far side of the chair, like after he growled at her, sometimes she'd wait a bit but always move away.

Speaking about lecherous hosts, Bill Maher had two of Pussy Riot on last week. They swung through LA on their PR tour and supposedly were feted by the Hollywood gratin. One of them is a major bomb Masha Alekhina and Maher was drooling he looked like the big bad wolf.
And she was there with her sexy young husband and she was quite unimpressed by Maher.  It was slimy to watch.
