Airbnb experiences?
« on: July 27, 2014, 02:29:10 PM »
Now the cantonal authorities in Bern and Zurich are having conniption fits about Air bnb not following the RULES, taxes, safety, unfair competition, and even removing apartments from the VERY tight market, to make these quasi-legal/illegal bnbs....  Of course the German part of Switzerland are going to be the first to squeak about the rules but I bet Geneva and Lausanne are not far behind.
Last night I was looking at rentals in a few Mediterranean cities. I looked for the ones where you get the whole place to yourself, with a terrace, with a decent view, in the centers of: Genova Italy, Menton, Nice, and Marseilles France, Malaga and Madrid, Spain.

There were some nightmares but there were some really really charming places smack dab in the middle of these cities an some in particular had nice terraces - in Marseilles and Madrid - with great views!!!   The Madrid listings were all so stylish, as well as Malaga.  And some elegant old Italian apts in Genova.   Like for 100 Euros a night...

Anyone have any experiences to report with Airbnb??? Do I dare?

Can be trouble, if you're the renter.  This guy knew how to work the 30 day law, which says you're a tenant after 30 days.

My bf and I tried it when we went to Barcelona in the Fall, and it went very well! There were a wide range of apartments to rent for our stay, with various levels of policies. The one we took, we could cancel and get reimbursed with a 24h notice, some were more strict.

I think it can be useful if you want to rent an apartment with a kitchen and more commodities than some hotel rooms, while staying in key neighbourhoods. In Barcelona, we were at a couple minutes of walking distance to everything, right in the old town.

And that's the trip we got engaged, so I only have good things to say about the apartment and the whole week!! :D
