Wondering about condomless sex with + gf
« on: October 17, 2014, 04:39:48 PM »

I'm hiv negative. But my gf is positive..I've never had sex with her without a condom. She's been on meds for almost a year and her VL is undetectable.I'm wondering if it is safe for us to ditch the condom once in a while..btw, i'm uncircumcised and her vagina does get extremely wet.Would it be safe to have sex with her without using condoms at least sometimes? Does it matter how long she has been undectable? I think most studies about risk of transmission between +/- partners involve ppl who have been undectable for several years.

It's not good enough to make up stuff like "I think most studies about risk of transmission between +/- partners involve ppl who have been undectable for several years."

HTPN 052 which is widely quoted as dropping the risk by 96% was a trial where poz partners were started (as part of the trial) on ART. The seroconversion in that trial was in the first 3 months of treatment.

I can't tell you what is or isn't an unacceptable risk, but both of you need to consent. It's not only a decision for you to make.
