Feel like crying right now...
« on: February 24, 2014, 10:10:15 PM »
Hi all, just want some good advice,  my last girlfriend was HIV positive but was taking 1 Atripla tablet daily, her viral load was always undetectable but i only have her word for that, i do not mean anyone with HIV any disrespect by saying that but my ex chose to tell me that she had HIV the night after we went to bed together for the 1st time and i gave her oral sex, when she told me, (she was crying), to be expected and i told her not to worry and that it didn't change anything, i still wanted to be with her, hell, i'd fallen in love with her...i ended up very quickly finding out more about HIV than she knew, we went & spoke to someone & was told that, whilst undetectable there was almost no risk of catching it, i chose after talking with the Dr to stop using condoms, (i wanted to be with this woman for the rest of my life & i wanted her to feel special, real & alive), ok, so lets fast forward a year & a half, things didn't work out and i have yet to pluck up the courage to go & get tested...but, i have met a lovely woman & we get on so well, i would never do anything before being tested but did give her a quick peck on the lips tonight & almost worked myself up in to having a nervous breakdown when i got home even though i already know i put her under no danger whatsoever...now, the boot is on the other foot & it might be me having to tell someone that i have something...how can i do that...thanks.

If I'm reading your post correctly its been a year since you had unprotected vaginal or anal sex, if that's correct you can test at any time now for a conclusive result . The testing window period for HIV is 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results .

Its unlikely that you will test positive if she was undetectable but it was a risk all the same so you will need to test . You can end your anxiety tomorrow if will just go test and get this done so you can move on .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I see . Knowing your HIV status would have to be better than to continue in a state of worry . If you test now and its negative it would be a very good thing . A 6 week negative HIV test rarely goes on the be positive when confirmed at 3 months so I urge you to go get tested . Life is too short to live in a state of anxiety when its avoidable .

Im wishing you the best . Save your last free post to come back with the good news that you tested HIV negative .
