Incredible Nervous and Need Input
« on: January 01, 2014, 09:05:16 PM »
First, let me extend a thank you to those who read through this post and respond. I greatly appreciate it.

On October 23 of this year, I gave unprotected oral sex to a friend I hadn't seen in a while. I wasn't aware he was ready to ejaculate, so when he did in my mouth, I immediately swallowed. I was also unaware that he was in a relationship and that both he and his boyfriend actively have sex with other men, either together or without each other.

When I got home, I noticed the back of my throat and tonsils had some blood on them, probably from performing the oral sex.

Two weeks later, I started noticing I had a cough and a slight fever, which I had chalked up as being the flu. I then started noticing that I have white patches on the inside of my lips and cheeks that, when wiped away, leave red/blood marks. I also developed a canker sore and a gum boil. I've never had a boil or these patches before and maintain generally good oral health. I'm still getting these patches today, 70 days past the event. I also had night sweats a few nights.

The man I was with also started feeling ill (stopped up nose, sore throat) and told me that he got tested over his Thanksgiving break, which was November 25 (the day he started feeling sick), 33 days past the event.

I used an Oraquick oral swab on December 24, about 60 days past the event, which came back negative. The line at the "C" was faint after 20 minutes, not as defined as it is in the pictures. There was no line on the "T".

My questions are:
1) Could I be at risk of having HIV?
2) I'm not sure which test he had done, but if he was going through symptomatic seroconversion, might his test still indicate negative?
3) Is the Oraquick test I had a good indicator, even with the line at the "Negative line being faint?

I greatly appreciate the input. I'm so nervous that I can't even seem to focus on anything else.

You didn't have a risk blowing your friend . The oraquick is accurate and you are HIV negative if this is your only concern in the last 3 months .

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

Jeff,
Thank you for helping ease my mind. I still went and got tested today due to any "theoretical risk" since I have never had these issues with mouth sores and thrush before.  What a mess. I have a fear of needles and after they took my blood, the tube broke and they had to take two tubes from other arm.  With your reply, however, I'm much more reassured as to what the result will be.

Bummer . You should expect a negative result since there was not a risk . Save you last post to come back and give us the good news you are negative .

Again, I want to thank the Admin and members for their incredible knowledge and support. I just got off the phone with the clinic. Tested negative for everything.

Since this was only a theoretical risk and tested negative with Oraquick 62 days after incident and this third generation antibody test at day 69, I will guess this to be conclusive.

Thank you again and God bless!
