Am I going through seroconversion?
« on: January 14, 2014, 11:53:20 AM »
Hi,

My story is saturday the 4th January I kiss a lad. I have braces and therefore am susceptible to cuts in my mouth. On thursday 10th 5 days from this event I started developing a rash on my upper arm which spread across my upper torso. Today tuesday 14th I have awoken with a sore throat and flu. I am so worried that I have contracted HIV through such a minor thing. I had a HIV antibody/antigen test (Duo test) yesterday and am waiting for the results. I know this test would be out of the window period but I am a massive worrier and have even confided in a friend about taking tablets to end this. If any one can share information to help me through this horrific change from one stupid event I will be really grateful.

Many thanks Jay

You never had an exposure from kissing and never needed an HIV test.

The three symptoms are very specific to HIV from my hours of google search. My rash even looks like the ones on google pictures. I'm sorry to re-write back but I am massively worrying as it was exactly a week after he exposure. Thank you for your quick reply

Jay,

You are NOT going through hiv seroconversion because you have NOT had a risk for hiv infection.

Your symptoms are NOT hiv specific. They could be cause by any one of hundreds of things. If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has NOTHING to do with hiv.

Kissing is NOT a risk, and it does not matter if you get cuts from your braces. Kissing isn't a risk because saliva is NOT infectious. Not only is it not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Before you ask the inevitable question about blood in the other person's mouth, unless you are in the habit of repeatedly punching a person in the mouth before they kiss you, there could not possibly be enough blood present to cause the least hiv concern.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV SPECIFICALLY FOLLOWING KISSING, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Ann

Thank you for your quick reply, I seemed to have gone into meltdown because of the rash, flu and sore throat. Your message has surely reassured me until the testing window.

Thank you Jay

Im so sorry to bring this topic up again. I'm 22 and I am finding it so difficult to keep my anxiety issues down.I am in complete meltdown over the rash and flu symptoms. Reading on other peoples stories my rash was red and raised and non itchy on both upper arms. Then I had the flu a few days into the rash. I know my risk was just kissing but is my act really safe with braces and mouth ulcers etc? It feels to much of a coincidence to never have rashes then exactly a week after intimate kissing I get these symptoms.

Apologies again for posting, I know there are loads of people with questions.

You never had an exposure.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child

I just keep questioning the symptoms, I know I shouldn't but I keep comparing the rash I had 'pictured below' to the ones on google.

Thanks again Jay

I pray that you are right.

Seriously Jay? A nursing student who seriously thinks he got hiv from kissing??? You need to find another profession. The last thing we need in the world is another hiv-ignorant medical professional.

If you feel unwell, stop self-diagnosing and go see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned!

Sorry Ann, I won't post regarding this situation anymore.
I'm just a very anxious person, and related my almost matching symptoms.

Again sorry.
