Going to New York
« on: December 12, 2013, 01:10:02 AM »
Me, the queen of "omg it's cold",  is going to NY this Saturday (the14th) with my cuz and two of her daughters.  The plan is to take the subway from wherever we catch it at and start at Ground Zero or China Town, (is that one or two words?) whichever is fartherest (yes spell check it is so a word), and work our way back to the where we will catch the bus to go home.

Any suggestions on where to eat lunch at in China Town and suggestions for a place to eat supper at when we get back closer to where the bus picks us up at. It picks us up outside Winter something theatre.

Yes we will be going to the candy store and my little cuz wants to go to "that section of that park named after the guy that was in that bug band".  And of course if he is there the naked cowboy. :)

And place your bets with my brother for how lost we get on the subway or anywhere while there.  ;)

Welcome! Where are you coming from?

Yeah, it's one word: "Chinatown".

I haven't eaten down there in a while, but when my office closed, they took us to Great NY Noodletown, which was pretty good, affordable and seemed 'authentic Chinatown' as opposed to Hollywood-movie version of Chinatown, whatever that means. Restaurant choice is such a personal thing, but have a look: http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/great_ny_noodletown/

The WTC Memorial is farther downtown, near the tip of the island.

Where is the bus picking you up exactly? Is it near the Winter Garden Atrium? That's also near the WTC Memorial, so perhaps not. I could offer some suggestions in Midtown West if that's where you'll end up. That's where I catch the bus to Philly, so I think of it as the bus district.

Oh, and it's supposed to snow on Saturday. Bring something warm. ;)

oksikoko--thanx
you may give all the tips you want.

It's a bus trip through my college I go to in PA.  We get dropped off at Winter Garden theater.  It's girls day for us; it's going to be me, my cuz, two of her daughters and a friend of her oldest kid.

I went to AAA and got a subway map for us.  Of course me and her have phones that have gps on them although we have to figure out how to use them so I guess that is what the young kid is for  :)

I looked at the weather for this weekend and saw it was going to snow. I got my hat and gloves already to go (Actually my hat is my Broncos santa hat).

I'm not picky on where I eat as long as it is good.  Cuz would like to try sushi but I'm not allowed so she is on her own with that food.

I will be happy with going to WTC memorial and Strawberry Fields. I guess I will have to give little cuz a lesson on The Beatles.  :)

I used to go to http://greatnynoodletown.com also like oksi -- it's cheap and good, though I also knew some better places -- Joe's Shanghai actually is better if only for the soup dumplings. If you've never had soup dumplings then go there. It's at 9 Pell Street a tiny street between Mott and the Bowery.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE send sunshine and warmth.  I'm really missing Florida's nice, hot weather.

Depending on the weather we may just do Times Square and around there and do the rest in the spring.

Lil cuz decided she doesn't want chinese food so a chinese restaurant may be out. We shall see  it may  depend on what her mom wants.

We plan on having fun.

This morning, we are going to the farmers market in St. Petersburg. We often enjoy going this time of the year, and will be able to pick up some produce and some other tasty treats. It always smells so good down here  :)     with what the vendors are preparing..

Here's a short you tube video I was able to find, of the St. Pete Farmers market. After that we will have some more outdoor activity.

If you are going to Times Square only and want good NY pizza, go to John's Pizzeria at 260 W 44th St. It's a sit-down type place and a branch of the very old, legendary place in the West Village but catering to the Broadway theater crowd. It's the type of New York thin crust brick-oven pizza one always hears about.
