A little med holiday - how bad can it be?
« on: October 18, 2013, 04:47:01 PM »
So here's the shortest version I can whip up:

Here in Georgia, we have to renew paperwork for Ryan White and ADAP every friggin' 6 months...because, you know, of all the things fraudulent and overblown in government programs, people faking AIDS to score meds and freebie doctor visits is surely the worst.
Anyway...I go into renew last month and was told by the ADAP folks that they weren't doing appointments then because they were trying to figure out how it was going to square with the new ACA (Obamacare).  So I figure, "Hey...I've got doc appointments in 3 and 1/2 weeks.  I will just check back then and renew if I can."
That time comes and I find out that, yes, they are doing appointments again...but I am now past my renew date (the original time I had come in) so I am expired by both RW and ADAP.  You can go into RW and take a number on most any business day, but the ADAP folks only do it by appointment now - and the nearest appt available to me is now next Thursday.  And even once that is done, it take 15 business days until it "kicks in".  I ran out of meds about a week ago.  Another week until my renewal appointment, and then still two more weeks until I can get pills.  Of course, I could still get them myself at the pharmacy...I just don't happen to have an extra $2,000  or so lying around to do so.

I cannot resist pointing out two obvious things:  (1.)  this sort of thing wouldn't be such a frequent bother to me and so many others if the Republican led red states could get their ever-lovin' shit together and join the real world, and (2.) The republican governor, Nathan Deal, not only refused to work with the Obama administration on the ACA rollout and expanding Medicaid, he barred any state employees from even discussing it.

So anyway...looks like I am now taking a little forced vacay from my Prezista, Truvada and Norvir cocktail.  Last known draw had me at UD and in the mid 500's.

What am I looking at here?

(PS:  Bonus points for also leaving me without my psyche meds.  Wheeeeeeeee!  This should be fun.)

Prezista, Truvada and Norvir.  Oh...and Depakote and Wellbutrin for psyche.

I've got several other side scrips, but those are the essentials.

Hey Tim,

So sorry to hear of this crap.  I had the same issues in Florida.

What kind of Wellbutrin do you take and what dose?

Joe

I will check for you.

Well bummer, and shit, and all that, and what a palava.

Wouldn't happen in lil ol 51st state of the UK. Like, basically, your politicians hate you....

In terms of what might happen, long term, not much/anything probably. But if something does, sue their asses.

As a safety strategy, if undetectable on this combo, it is safe to skip 1 dose every 2-3 weeks to build up a cushion of meds. Ain't perfect but works.

If you were here could have some of mine  :)

Carl,

I have a bottle of Truvada. Recent script. Twenty pills. I was taken off them right after I renewed.  >:(

I have no idea how to get them to you though. PM me an address maybe?

Can you get some samples from an ID doc?

Our governor is a dick.  You have no idea.  I went to school with his daughter 20 years ago.  He's always been a dick.  He's just doubled down on his dickness over the last few years - as have many.

two last things for now:

1.  no, i can't get samples or any temp scrips for emergencies.  once upon a time, but not anymore.  they don't allow that.

2.  thanks, everyone, for stepping up to help out.
