I need your help please
« on: October 04, 2013, 05:47:35 PM »
I am thrilled to find this site and its incredible level of support. I want to reach out to you with my concern. I am a dedicated husband and I was on a trip to Brazil. I made the wrong decision and i allowed a sex worker into my room. She didn't look sick but yet i know it doesn't have to show. We mostly kissed and hugged. However toward the end of the night, she performed oral sex on me and i came in her mouth. The other thing i noticed is, as i was touching her nipples, few milk drops flew out and landed on my tongue. If i have to guess, probably 10 drops. This incident happened 28 weeks ago. Last week i started developing a mild fever (ranging from 99 to 101). it comes and goes. I checked with the Dr. and he gave me antibiotics but the medicine did nothing to stop it (5 days into it). The Dr. told me it must be viral infection. I am extremely concerned that what happened in Brazil is haunting me here. Please help me with your opinion. I am so grateful.

You did not have a risk for HIV and can relax . The risk factors are ...

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Jeff, thank you so much and I appreciate it. I was mainly worried by the symptoms that i got. Low fever persisting over long time. Night swear. Fatigue. Sorry and I don't want to be annoying, but are the symptoms giving an indication of likely exposure risk? Again, i greatly appreciate it.

We do not discuss symptoms because to do so would be to guess what's causing them .
Your symptoms are in no way specific to HIV and only testing can determine if you are infected .

I can say you did not have a risk for HIV in this incident .
