Should I Still Be Concerned?
« on: December 10, 2013, 06:55:06 PM »
Hey forum, I've been reading around here all day and I have to say you have a great community.

I just have a few quick questions to help me with my anxiety. About 3 years ago I engaged in protected sex with a prostitute in Amsterdam. I decision I now regret, but that's besides the point.

I never felt any symptoms of anything and just went about my life. Then last week, all the reports of World AIDS Day caught my eye on the news. Being three years older, and a little more mature my mind raced back to that night in Amsterdam. So my anxiety drive me to go get tested yesterday at my city's free anonymous testing clinic.

Well... I ended up testing negative from what I believe was the OraQuick Rapid Test. But ever since, I just can't shake the the thought it was a false negative.

I don't think I had anything to drink before the test. But the person that administered the test didn't even ask me that. Does eating or drinking matter for this test, or is that only for the at home oral test?

Also, it felt like I was in the room for way shorter than 20 mins. Would the results not show up if I were in there for 15 mins?

I'm thinking about going back tomorrow and just getting the test again, am I crazy? I wish I just had a print out confirmation of "negative" or if I just took a picture of my result to help my nerves haha.

Any advice, here?

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

The test you took is accurate and eating or drinking would not effect it . You had protected sex so I really think your fear of HIV is getting the better of you .

There is not much to add than you have tested negative for HIV and if you cant accept it then please seek some counseling for your HIV phobia, we cant help with that .

Thanks Jeff, I think you're right I'm just over reacting and my mind is doing more harm than good right now. I think I really didn't let the result sink in. Looking back, I don't think the test taker would have let me walk out the door without paperwork and information or somewhere to follow up with, right? I just wish I had that photo.

Good to know about the test though, thanks for your answer. I couldn't find it anywhere. Looks like I'm just going to move on and be smarter in the future. Thank you.
