Worried Sick!!
« on: August 19, 2013, 07:38:03 PM »
Hello,

the other day i was competing in a national fitness competition, and one of the tests was as many pull-ups as possible on a pull-up bar for 1 minute.

There were 5 guys ahead of me who all use the bar, then I jumped on immediately after the guy infront of me and after I finished my pull-ups I looked at my hand and noticed that I tore up my finger (callous popped off from friction), and was bleeding all down my hand. If one of the guys infront of me had this happen to them as well and there was blood on the bar and It touched the cut on my hand am I at risk for HIV?

I am panicking! Help!

Thank you

No need to panic. You absolutely cannot get HIV from touching blood. HIV is not esily transmitted, and can't be transmitted AT ALL outside the body.

You can get HIV from having unprotected anal/vaginal sex and sharing IV drug needles.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Even if you are touching fresh blood with an open fresh cut? (only a minute of being exposed to air before you touch it)

JK is correct . HIV is not easily transmitted and becomes damaged and unable to infect instantly under the conditions that exist outside the human body .

If HIV could be transmitted in the way you are concerned with then HIV positive children would not be able to go to public schools , HIV positive hair dressers would have to find new work .

These are the risk factors for HIV ... chin ups are not on the list .

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations.
