Please help :/
« on: July 27, 2013, 11:48:29 PM »
Thank you so much for this wonderful site, it truely has helped me out so much. I really appreciate what you all do on here,  I just wanted to know a few things, so here goes my story. .... I know I messed up, I knew this guy from when I was in my teenage years and we started dating, we didn't do anything the first month we were together, but then one day we had unprotected sex(feb 2,2013). I immediately regretted it... And started freaking out. He informed me that he was tested after his last relationship and had nothing wrong. But I still wanted to get tested, I was tested 2 weeks after that encounter(feb15,2013)and everything came back negative, a month went by and we still were together and he informed me that he tested positive for chlamydia because he had symptoms so he went and got checked...And that I needed to be checked... He swore he didn't cheat. But I know he did because I tested negative 2 weeks after our first sexual encounter. Anyways, I went to my gynecologist (march16,2013)and got medicine, but I still was worried, so I went to a clinic a week later (march29,2013), and got retested for chlamydia, I also asked for an HIV test. They did the rapid finger prick test.... And they told me that it was "half positive half negative" ((the dr said she had a handful of tests like this that past week, none came back a true positive)) and that they needed to send my blood to the lab for a western blot test. I went into a panic, I begged for another finger prick test, which they did, it came back 100% negative. So I was a little relieved. They called me a few days later and said that my western blot was negative as well. But since i had that first positive rapid test. They told me that I must get a second test in 6 weeks to confirm my result. So on may 10, 2013 I went back and had another western blot test and it came up negative. They told me I did not need additional testing. But I was very worried still. So at 3 months post exposure June 17, 2013, I had another test which came back negative. Then again on July 15,2013 at 4 months, and another negative. I'm just worried because my urine is very yellow... No matter how much water I drink, I had a urinalysis and my bilirubin was high. And that has to do with blood cells. The doctor said I'm dehydrated which can be a cause... but i am still worried that maybe it's HIV? Because they both involve a persons blood. Should I continue to test until 6 months? I tested at 4 months and 1 week after exposure and have been celibate since.

You can rely on the western blot test you had , you are HIV negative . A test at 6 weeks and again at 3 months is the cdc guideline for a conclusive result and you have tested beyond that , so no need for further testing at this time for this incident .

Just remember to use condoms correctly and consistently for vaginal and anal sex and you will avoid HIV .

Thank you so much for your quick response!!  So one last question, so it's safe to say I am not infected with HIV, and I can't put it behind me and move on with my life??

You are not infected. You have reliably tested HIV negative.

Take a breath and get on with your life.
