Very disturbed and scared about my risk.
« on: July 08, 2013, 01:01:35 AM »
Hello,

Before I start I want to thank all of those who run the forum and all the members that help one another!

So I will keep it short, like everyone else I am very scared and worried about my risk of contracted HIV.

I had protected receptive anal sex with a TSSW , we used a condom stopped and then again used a condom again. I know at this point I am not at risk, but i felt a little feverish 7 days after and I felt a bit tired today and yesterday so thoughts have been flying in my mind that maybe the condom broke? She did not ejaculate in me i know that for sure, and I didnt see the condom or analyze it to really know if they broke or not. So ive been really stressed out and at 9 days after the event I got tested with HIV RNA PCR it came back negative. Ive also purchased a oral test and really want to do it now even though i know its not as effective.

My question is what is my risk and with the negative RNA whats the actual likelihood of infection?

Thanks so much in advance!!
MIKE

Well, one of the things we really like to hear is that a person uses condoms for penetrative vagina/anal sex. Thanks!

Condoms are designed to fail catastrohpically - they are double-dipped at 40-45 degee angles in latex. When they DO fail (often as a consequence of the manner of use/storage rather than an issue with the product itself) the results are almost always plainly evident. You will have a ring, and shredded latex around your penis. Not easy to overlook. And a sex worker uses condoms to protect him/her from YOU, not the other way around.

But as you used a condom AND the TSSW did not ejaculate?  There is absolutely no HIV risk here at all.

I really appreciate your input and help, it puts my mind a ease.

Could you shed some light on my negative HIV RNA PCR? Ive read that its 99.6 percent accurate anywhere from 7-14 days , would you say that my negative result puts me at an even less likelihood ?

Thanks You

I would say that your unnecessary RNA PCR test (which, as you know, is NOT used for diagnostic purposes because of it's large number of false positives, requires an insanely narrow window to even start to bing accurate, and is very expensive) should have put you at ease.

Of course, you had no risk to begin with.

I appreciate your input and advise, Since I already purchased the oral swab test I figure I will just wait until the 4 week point and use it rather than have it sit around!

Thanks for your help

Six weeks is the earliest that any sort of test would be considered effective. And that, of course, is only if you hve had a risk - which you have not.
