Scientists using HIV to cure Cancer

(1/1)

magnoman:
I thought this short video was interesting:

http://devour.com/video/scientists-fight-cancer-with-hiv/

In it they are reporting of how scientists have used a modified version of the HIV virus to cure Leukemia.

Apparently the new virus has been engineered to no longer cause disease and instead attack cancer cells.

If they can engineer HIV  to cure cancer, is there a possibility that soon they will be engineering HIV to cure HIV? Or is that just naive?

As an aside my boyfriend reckons this is the beginning of the scenario that caused World War Z!  :)

Magnoman; There was another thread on using HIV to cure leukemia - my recollection was that it helped cure a young girl.  With regard to turning HIV on itself, yes, check this thread out:
