Am I possiblly infected? Really anxious. Please help!
« on: June 14, 2013, 03:55:03 PM »

I did probably the stupidest thing in my life. I had a anal sex with a sex worker in Netherlands. I study here for a few years now and in my (damn) head i thought that it would be a good idea to try something like that. The sex was protected by the condom and did not break (as far as i know). Whole sex lasted approximately 7 minutes. This is not what worries me. The thing that worries me is that just before the sex, she have put my tip of the penis approx 1-2cm into her vagina. I have immediately took it out so it was in there maybe a second or so. Then she put a condom and the rest you already know.
I get tested for HIV and other STDs two weeks after and all of the results were negative. But from what i found on the internet, HIV tests in 2nd week after the actual contact are only 50% accurate. At the local STD center they told me that i do not have to worry about getting HIV from such a brief contact. Is that really true?
I cant think about anything else right now. My upcomming exams are next week and i am scared to death! I cant study, I cant eat. :-[
Right now (6 weeks after), i got symptoms like little bit of sore throat, a bit of weakness and less taste for food.

So my questions are:
1. Can i be HIV infected from what i just written (assuming sex worker was HIV+)?
2. Are the tests reliable enough?
3. Do you think that symptoms i have gave, could be traced to HIV or just normal cold or anxiety?

Please Help!!

Thank you for your time and effort. I appreciate it so much

I agree that you didn't have a risk providing the information you provided is correct , it sounds to me from your description that you simply rubbed your penis on the outside of her vagina . If you dipped or briefly inserted your penis it would a low risk situation at best and I wouldn't expect a positive result when you test .

The place where HIV resides in a vagina is in the mucosal lining near the cervix and it doesn't sound like you actually penetrated her had any contact with that area , so I agree with the clinic that you didn't have a risk .

Had you had a risk the guidelines for testing are 6 weeks post exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results .
To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
If you decide to test for this incident I would expect a negative result .

First of all, i really appreciate your interest and effort Jeff G. Thank you for your answer.

Second of all, well yea that was kind of the thing. I rubbed my penis across the vagina several times and accidently the tip of my penis went a just a little into the vagina. You cannot call it penetration definatley!

If i may ask you, how deep is mucosal lining? It might be usefull also for other readers.

I only have protected sex and even not that often. Thats why i am so worried because i never had such a contact. I will get tested definatley tho.

But from what i said, you think is should be fine right and i am just overreacting?
(Sorry for english, I am not a national speaker)

Thanks again!!!

The depth from the vaginal opening to the tip of the cervix is 3 to 4 inches when they are not sexually aroused. Other women may have a vaginal depth of five to seven inches. Regardless, during arousal, blood flows to the genital area, and sexual excitement causes the upper two-thirds of the vagina to lengthen by forcing the cervix and uterus to ascend.

I do not think you had a risk and the fact that the clinic told you that it was not a risk adds to my assessment that you do not need further testing at this time for this incident .

If I or your clinic determined that you had a risk we would not hesitate to let you know in order to guard your and others health .
