Miss Philicia:
fyi, there were two separate gay bashings right after this march. One in SoHo and the other in the East Village.

Yes I know.  Awful.  I've read some chat about that speculates these strings of gay bashings may also have something to do with certain gang initiations.  I find that curious.

Miss Philicia:
Actually it was a homeless man that was just charged with one of the bashings from this week. I've read nothing about coordinated gang related activity. Where did you read that?

Andy Velez:
Prior to the very large gathering on Monday there was one on Saturday night in the same place 8th St & 6th Avenue. About 300 hundred of us, very serious,  angry and sorrowful. People speaking from the heart. Mixed racially and some straights including parents whose gay son in London asked them to go for him. It was powerful.

And just this past Thursday night, the night before Mark was killed, Queer Rising and others had gathered outside of Madison Square Garden to protest the recent outburst of violence in that area.

Summer is a-comin'. LGBTQ Advisory Panel to the Police Commissioner which I chair is meeting with him tomorrow afternoon. The police have actually been pretty good in their response these recent days, though I wouldn't want the violence to turn into an NYPD justification for Stop and Frisk. Stay tuned...
