Hi onelife, last night i posted on the "am i infected forum" took the advice of the members there and went to get my test done today and it came back positive, now am here. One thing i am is angry at the person who infected me. I have decided to go see a therapist starting Monday, i need someone to help me see through this i am more worried about depression and anxiety,in the past i have been known to get this massive panic attacks over small things but with this am not sure how i will cope. Am still in uni at 22 am supposed to be at the prime of my life now i have to start worrying will i live? Will people know? Will my life ever get back to normal? Will i ever get kids? A husband? When i think about my parents,my mum especially i just break down and cry i have let her down.
I don't know who to talk to this weekend i just pray i don't turn suicidal and i live to see it to Monday!

Carleen -

I am really sorry to hear about the test result, but I am VERY glad you did take that test. Would you mind if I asked a moderator to split this post into a new topic so that we can dedicate it to discussing the next steps you will be taking as you learn the ins and outs of your diagnosis? There's a significant amount of stuff you will learn in the next few weeks, and I would hate to hijack this thread.

I am glad you found this forum. It's the absolute best among the dwindling cumber of HIV forums on the internet. I'm just sorry you HAD to find it, if you know what I mean.

YellowFever:
When I first tested poz, I told a friend that I feel like I've let many people in my life down. And I told her that  I felt I should just give up and die.  She then replied 'If you gave up now, that would be the biggest letdown'. So hopefully you'll find the strength to carry on, like the ones who have had this disease for a year, 2 years, 5 years, or 20 years.

Ann:
Carleen, have you had confirmatory tests run yet? A positive result on a rapid test does not equal a positive hiv diagnosis.

They should have taken blood (after your positive rapid result) for further testing with another antibody test PLUS a Western Blot test. You will not be considered to be hiv positive until you have had WB confirmation in the form of a positive WB result.

False positive results on rapid tests can and do happen. Various things like pregnancy or an underlying autoimmune disorder can trigger them, and sometimes they just happen.

Until you have had confirmation of your positive test result, I have to ask you to not post anywhere outside your thread here or your thread in the Am I Infected forum. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hopefully this has been a false alarm and your subsequent test results will be negative. Good luck and keep us posted.

Ann
