Am I Infected? Oral Sex (ONLY PRECUM)
« on: February 11, 2013, 11:12:16 AM »
Well, I come here with a heavy heart, after sleepless nights and even disbelief in my own life.

A few days ago, I had a relationship with an older guy, I'm 17 years old, at the height of the moment, I sucked him for a few seconds, and he did not actually release sperm, only precum. He released precum twice. And both times, I spit!

So far so good, but I realized that I had cuts in his mouth, and even a aphtha. I read some posts and some said that saliva inhibits the virus, but other sites say that through the wounds can enter the bloodstream.

Can I be infected? Please help me get this weight off my mind.

Hi Mark . You can put your mind at ease and try not to worry about your encounter .

Getting or giving a blowjob is NOT a risk for HIV infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage HIV and renders it unable to infect.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions to avoid HIV .  Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms , so if you are sexually active its a good idea to get a full std check up once a year .

Thank you for answering, I already went to the idea of telling my parents that I might be infected!

But even with the cuts and aphtha I do not run risks?

You are most welcome ! ... The cuts and canker sores are not particularly worrisome . If you had horrible periodontal disease and HUGE bleeding open cuts there is a slight risk . I hesitate to even bring that up for fear of worrying you because I can almost guarantee you wouldn't be preforming oral sex due to the pain and doscomfort if that was the case .

The truth is you didn't have a risk here and you can safely put it out of your mind .

You are not going to get HIV from oral sex with precum. There is no caveat.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

So are you sure that was not infected? Needless to at least test it?

I'm really scared, I started college this year, and I've thought about locking up the course to take care of myself.

While I recommend that every sexually active person who is not in a mutually monogamous relationship get a full STD panel (including, of course, an HIV test) every six months, the activities you describe do not necessitate an HIV test.

There have been no fewer than three long term studies of serodiscordant couples (where one partner is positive and one is negative) that lasted three, five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative anal and vaginal sex, but chose not to use barrier protection for oral sex of any kind. At the end of these studies, not a single person seroconverted due to oral activity. Not one.

Precum, estoy infectado?

I've moved your latest entry over from the Spanish forum since this is where you began and have been receiving answers. It's a rule of the site for members to keep their entries all in the same thread. Please follow that rule in the future. This is the only thread you should be using.

Whatever is causing your symptoms it's not HIV. You've been told that several times. If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor. Nothing you have reported put you at risk for HIV transmission.

HIV is not your problem. Period.
