Last Night in Portland Oregon
« on: January 25, 2013, 11:00:12 PM »
Wrapping up a work-related trip to Portland Oregon. Portland is a great city. A bit cold this time of year - but some excellent restaurants. The hotel I have been staying in is wonderful (Hotel Monaco) - rated number #1 in Portland. Got an upgrade to a suite - so that has been nice. Oh, and even nicer.... THE LA CLIPPERS are staying here tonight - yes, I met a few downstairs. They have a game against the Trailblazers tomorrow.

Back to Miami tomorrow (leave here around 11:30 am - layover in Phoenix - and plan on being back in Fort Lauderdale at 9:30 pm).... Long flight, but it is preparing me for the trip to London.

Overall, if I can keep the health issues in check, life is good!

The room at the Hotel Monaco (and they even greeted me by bringing up an ice bucket with Coronas in it!).

Have a safe return trip.  One regret when attending AMG Seattle was not visiting Portland.  I debated on extending my trip to include going there.  I have family there and have never visited because of the "fear of flying" thingy.

Have a great day buddy.

Back from Portland - eventful return:

1) The hard drive on my less than 6-month old laptop failed enroute from Phoenix to Fort Lauderdale. Techs think that I didn't turn it off all the way and the turbulence screwed the running/hibernating hard drive. So, I have it at CompUsa seeing if they can retrieve any data. HP is sending me a box to return the laptop so they can install a new hard drive - but I will still have to reinstall Office, virus software,  etc.  UGGHHH!   I am using my 8 year old HP - which is dinosaur old and snail slow. Hoping that I can get data back from the one at CompUsa.

2) Got to parking lot to pick up my car last night around 11:00 and the battery was dead.  As the car isn't even a year old, I knew it was something I had done. Sure enough, I had left an interior light on.... At least I didn't break my window to get in when the remote wouldn't work - A few years ago, when I had my Xterra, the battery died and the remote wouldn't work to unlock the car, so I broke the window to get in, because it did not occur to me that I had a key and could do it the old-fashion way - so, at least this time I remembered to use the key. That is a positive.

3) The lady next to me on the flight from Phoenix to Fort Lauderdale got shut off from the alcohol after getting irate with the flight attendant when she could not use the bathroom when she wanted - so that was some interesting in-air drama (which made up for me not having access to my laptop to play "Slingo."

Glad to be home in 82 degree weather. Just readjusting to the time change - because, of course, I was able to stay on Eastern time my whole trip, but when I returned my body decided it was now used to Pacific time. So, a small bit of jet lag - but it is passing.

Oh, and one thing about Portland - very few bars/restaurants have Corona - they prefer their local brews.  So, I am about to go to Flanigans and pick up my to go philly steak and have a Corona while waiting for it to be ready.

Still kind of bummed out that I didn't hook up with any of the LA Clippers that were at the hotel the last evening - although I did fantasize about a few as I went to sleep that last night.

And so another traveling adventure is complete. phildinftlaudy style  8)

Hey Phil;

Computer, car, and flight drama problems...when it rains it pours (yes, a Portland reference). I would like to point out that technically none of those problems were in Porltand, just sayin.  Glad to hear you are safe and sound at home now.

Here is the tv show Portlandia that I was telling you about:
