« on: January 20, 2013, 11:49:36 AM »
CONTEST TIME!... my numbers are in: $56,360.35 for all of my 12 months of prescriptions.

Anyone else care to weigh in with their numbers?

I cannot find the paperwork with the year end total, but I do look when I get the statements.  Mine were around $60,000.  So, right there with ya.

That's all medicine or just the antivirals??

Everything that was run through my Medicare Part D prescription coverage. But the non-antivirals aren't particularly expensive -- a month of loperamide, and one containing 180 capsules comes to $12.22. My blood pressure medication isn't the cheapest on the market, but it comes to only $96/month. I have eleven prescriptions filled each month, so it's a bit more than the rest of you poz slackers.

I've not seen a year end statement for all of my doctor's visits, hospital/surgery events, lab tests, etc. I had so much done this past year I can't even fathom what the total would be. Basically I'm a huge drain on society and when I think about it in terms of cost/benefit I can see why the Nazis believed in eugenics.

Should it be in 'Living with HIV' section? Costs are huge part of our living with HIV life. Well thats MODs to decide.

Good topic. We may find some interesting facts on this.

Responding to this topic - I personally have no clue , well I am not on meds yet but I am eager to know about the meds cost?!

My 2012 total was $23,883.51.  Not bad for me; I have certainly had MUCH higher totals in previous years.

I switched from Viramune, Emtriva, and Ziagen to Isentress, Prezista, and Norvir in the last quarter of 2012, so 2013's total will probably be higher.

I'll see if I can find my partner's amount; his will be higher than mine.

Medication only for 2012: $22,322

Now, if we get into labs, hospital, ER, and physician costs...... that is another story...

    Medical Claims: $52,594.76
    Insurance Paid: $22,887.71

Total Paid by Insurance for Medical and Pharmacy: $45,209.71

My out of pocket:
     Medical: $1,077
     Pharmacy: $144.22 (if I wouldn't have had Atripla co-pay assist=$864.22)
     Total of out pocket: $1,221.22

Total Medical and Pharmacy Paid (Insurance and Copays) = $46,430.93

The latest hospital bill and associated claims for 2013 total $13,420.95 (less than one month into the new year)  :o

My 3 HIV meds alone were $34,918.88  Add that to the costs of all the other procedures and I'm sure it'd be close to 100K.  I just paid one hospital bill that my portion was $1,200 and have paid about $2,500 out of pocket since summer but I can't complain when I look at the grand totals.
