we were the second largest city in the British Empire.

Right, and the filthiest in the world. Wasn't it Philly that often was referred to as the 'Diseased City" , rampant Yellow fever because of all the people shitting in the streets and in the drinking water?

Meanwhile about the same time, Texas was a thriving indepedent Sovereign Nation.

I'm at my friends house about a mile from Tanny Hill State Park where you can visit the furnaces used to make cannon balls for the civil war .

Can you believe that today's paltry 1.5" (official reading at PHL) has been our largest snowfall event of the winter, and it's the end of January? El Paso, TX has 8 inches several weeks ago. :-[

But with today's snow we're now tired for last year's miserable 4 inches, so we can't possibly do worse by the end of winter. The 2009-10 season we had 79" and set an all time record. I'd like to blame Southerners for global climate change.

Bahahahah! Just checked and Connecticut is 34!

The bad thing there is a cold front bearing down on us ion the next couple of hours. And as my Southern brethren know Cold air over HOT air does not a nice mixture make. They are expecting Tornadoes and such north of us, not too much here though.

It was 50F here today and is going up to 63F tomorrow. Oh, and we're also going to have thunderstorms which is (relatively) unheard of in January.

... then we'll drop like a brick after this next cold front and get down to 27F

Dunno why Guilhermina's trying to steal your thunder (no pun intended) as SA's not even in the bad zone. She's always got to try and make everything about herself.

Uh hello Mary Meteorologist. Your little cute map is for tomorrow. Texas is West of that map (in case you didnt know). The front is moving West to East. so that would mean we are getting it today.  But again, mainly north of us.

Whateva.

It was nicer in Miami today (G_d's Tropical Garden, Party City, and favorite place for all forms of diversity).  No more than 75 at any given moment.

The weather was so beautiful that a couple of friends/colleagues from my department and I just lounged for a few hours on the campus lawn while preparing tomorrow's lessons.  Some Starbucks, pastries, good books, and plenty of gossip.

So enjoy your sucrose loaded concoction.  I'll have me a Guinness.

I know , I'm loosing ma touch  ;) . Vulcan park is a short distance from here and has a civil rights museum there also . I always like to take visitors there to see the museum because it does an excellent job of documenting the abuses that took place during the shameful part of the city's history .

Why, coz I'm in the real South?  Byotch.

Comparing a shitty hellhole like SA and Philly is just as contextually accurate.

Why, coz I'm in the real South?  Byotch.

Comparing a shitty hellhole like SA and Philly is just as contextually accurate.

Florida is the real south? I thought it was just that place where Ponce De Leon wrecked his ship on his way to Texas and let loose all those wild pigs and bizarre diseases. I really dont know why we don't just cut Florida loose and let it float down to Cuba. But I guess its a good place for all the Yanks to go to die, otherwise they would end up coming to Texas and fouling us up.

For the same reason that you think where you live has anything to do with the South when, in fact, you're a vestigial hemorrhoid from Pancho Villa's sphincter. That goes for anything south or west of Houston.

wicked winds here last night! (78 mph winds)
worse than hurricane Sandy.
woke up at 5 AM and the sky was pink with CONSTANT upper atmosphere electrical action.
have never seen anything like it in my life!
looked like something from a sci-fi movie.
lost power from 5AM til noon.
lost cable/phone/internet once again from 4PM-5:45PM.
pizza tonight! :)

We had very high winds overnight but not as bad as you did -- only ~50mph at PHL airport.

Well, that's because you're a liar. Westbrook is 17 miles from where you live.

i guess i would need a meteorological approved wind gauge in my back yard and be an official weather reporting location to meet your standards. :)
we must have had gusts of at least 9 mph here last night.
i lose...
