Hi everyone!

I'm new here and eager to know if someone can tell me of any problem for a Hiver following Mr. Sears' Zone Diet.

Regards!

Hi Rivas,

I've never heard of this diet either. The best way to lose weight is to simply eat a balanced diet. This means cutting out fast foods and eating plenty of fruits and veg. Have a look at the diet plan and if it involves something like eating high amounts of one type of food and cutting other food groups out completely, stay away from it as diets like that aren't good for anyone, hiv positive or not.

Fast foods are one of the biggest culprits where unwanted weight gain is concerned. You'd probably be better off getting yourself a good, basic cookbook that will show you interesting ways of cooking good food without tons of added fats and sugars that are contained in fast foods.

Your nutrition is very important and balance is key. Some hiv clinics can refer you to a nutritionist, so ask at your next appointment. Oh, and don't forget to check out the other threads in this section.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

A little late to answer since this was posted in September but I just saw it and had to answer! I lived on the Zone Diet for years before being diagnosed and then for about 2 years after. The greatest thing about the Zone is it really teaches one how to eat in general. The rules don't leave you quickly. I still eat a "Zone-esque" diet. It helps you balance all of the food that's good for you and keeps your energy level HIGH! There are some foods to avoid on the Zone if you're poz, (like grapefruit) but it's easy to eat around the ones you need to avoid. It's basis is to keep you away from bad fats (good!) and eat more of the healthy fats and meats like avacado and fish. Lots and lots of healthy fruits and veggies.  Some people find it a little dairy heavy --- really the only bad side for some. It also takes an adjustment period to get your shopping list down to a science. Otherwise, I HIGHLY recommend it for HIV. Good luck!

Here is a link for the zone diet:

http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/diet/zone.htm

Being a celiac, I already follow some of what this diet entails. However, it sounds like way too much work. Measuring each ingredient would be a real pain, especially when coupled with dietary restrictions already observed because of celiac disease.

HUGS,
