Question about meds.... starting...
« on: December 20, 2012, 07:23:07 PM »
It's been a long time since I have been on the forums.... years actually.. I want to get to know people again after a long stint on the run from myself.  Hello and nice to meet you...

I am at a point where I can see a Dr. again and since I have I have been positive... 5 year now.. my CD4 has averaged 800+ and my VL not more than 7000 c/ml... today My newest results were 864 CD4 @ 40% and 3000 VL...

No real complaints other than the normal stuff.. fatigue..body aches.. sometimes I am forgetful and wonder if that is HIV or just years of smoking the green.. .. Dr suggested starting Stribild and I have a few questions for those that know...

She suggested that many people who start feel better and often say.. why did I wait so long.. things like this... Old school says I don't need to take meds.. but I wonder.. will I feel better? Will I have more energy and will the body aches go away? Will my thinking become clearer? Anyone with any experience with this? It is a choice I need to make and I know that eventually I will need to take meds?  I can't say I feel "bad' but I wonder... have I just got used to feeling 80% and that is my new norm? seems like now that I am 39.. I am just getting older.. but.. with HIV..there is always that "can I trust my body to tell me the truth" question...

Love to you all

Travel:

I was in the same situation as you for a very long time.  Recently the virus got the upper hand and I started on meds.

It's a tough one.  Your VL is negligible,  but likely inflames the immune system which may contribute to general health issues. To what degree and what effects, God only knows.

Starting meds, I've had some minor side effects, like insomnia.  And you'd have the new challenge of "ever day at the same time forever." Easier said then done with the best of intentions.

If I had the choice, I would have stayed off meds.

Also, it is likely that NIH would be interested in you.

Good luck.
