New Career?

idee:

I was going into medical coding but there aren't many internships let alone jobs for someone just starting out.
So I have decided to give radiology technician a try. At least after my computer classes are finished in December.
I go this Thursday to meet the career specialist for the school. I still need to find out how much it costs to attend. The positive thing is they place their students in externships.
Another thing is I don't know if my HIV will keep me from becoming a radiology tech. Can they deny me employment for my health? If so who would I go to for help?
Also two doctors have told me to keep my medicaid as long as I can. So there are many things I hope will work out.
I write this on here hoping there are other professional but HIV positive persons on here who would be of help with advice.

Didn't you have to quit working for health reasons?  I could be incorrect, but I thought that was the case.  I realize you may not be to ill to work forever, but just don't rush back into anything.

I don't believe you can be denied employment in radiology.  There are a couple members here who are nurses.  HIV is protected under the American with Disabilities Act.  Of course I'm too lazy to link to it, but I'm sure you could google it and find it.

Just take care of yourself, and don't rush into anything.

I actually don't remember what I wrote on here. But the reason I quit my job was do to the possibility of losing my health coverage and SSI. I also had terrible ankle and feet swelling from sitting at a desk all day. Plus I am not good at asking people for personal information in order to give them a loan, people would become rude and did not want me to check their bank accounts which was part of my job.
But I am interested in being a rad tech because it is something I would be proud of doing, and I'd be helping people at the same time. The positive thing is I also get to move around instead of sit at a desk all day long.
I am taking it slow though, sleeping right and eating healthy in order to prepare for school.
Thanks for the information on the Americans with Diabilities Act. I will look it up today.

You can definitely get a job in radiology. Your status has NOTHING to do with you being anything that you want to be. I am an ER nurse who happens to have HIV. I work everyday and do a good job at it. I work beside DRs and other health care workers woh also have HIV.

Good luck in your endeavors!!

Thanks for letting me know I wouldn't be the only one. I feel a little more confident now.
