Worried

Hello to all, for those of you involved with this site, a big thank you.  Your time and efforts in attending to these forums are very much appreciated !

My situation is: 4 weeks ago, I went to a gay sauna and went into a private room with a guy.  We had protected anal (I was bottom) and unprotected oral.  My concern is that at one stage he was rubbing his penis along my arse and then slipped it in (for about five seconds) before I clearly stated he was to use a condom at all times.  He agreed and also said he was negative.  However if this guy is participating in regular sex with men, I would hope he is tested regularly as he may be positive without knowing.

My concern is based around the following events.  13 days after the session, I had a one night fever (lasted for a few hours, then settled as I slept).  4 days later I noticed a small heat type rash on my arms which lasted 2 days.  I had a sore throat & headache for about 3 days after the rash and also had very bad joint and muscle pain for nine days which included jaw pain.

My question is, in the experience of the forum members, my symptoms whilst common with ARS symptoms, they did not all come at once and whilst some stayed for a few days, others left.  There was not one day where all symptoms presented themselves together and I was wondering if other people have reported a similar situation where the symptoms did not present together (they were spread out over a two week period with different symptoms on different days).

It is too early for me to test at this point and certainly will do so however I would appreciate any comments from more experienced forum co-ordinators and members.

Well, while it isn't entirely possible that the gentleman "dipped" for an instant (depending on how lubed up and ready/willing you were) that constitutes a very low risk, if indeed it's a risk at all.

It's totally up to you whether or not you wish to test at the three month period. I would expect you to test negative over this event.

As for symptoms, and though I am loathe to discuss them, they DO tend to come on all at once, and then go away. ARS is NOT a symptom of viral activity, rather it is the body's mounting defense against HIV by creating antibodies. It does the same thing when you have the flu and such, which accounts for the majority of the symptoms of a flu or cold.

I certainly expect you to come out of this ok however, and that's the bottom line, pun intended.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."
