At the movies....Tim Burton, you sneeky devil...
« on: September 01, 2012, 10:02:13 PM »
A group of us (adults, teens, and young kids) saw the Tim Burton "influenced"  movie ParaNorman today.  The movie, about a "special" young boy, bullying, zombies, and a centuries old curse, was decent with a few clever snips of dialogue sprinkled here and there.

The quick dialogue at the end caught mostly everyone (including me) by surprise though.   ;)

Edited to Add: Tim Burton "influenced" film.

Don't be such a tease, handsome. What was the dialogue that took you all by surprise?

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

I get free movie passes at work and I was wanting to go see something today, so I threw this out as an option and surprisingly Santi agreed to it. We can usually agree on animated features but I didn't know if he knew of the zombies thing so I didn't say anything.

We thoroughly enjoyed it! It was very entertaining on the big screen but I thought it was a little scary for some of the really small kids in there. What do I know? But I didn't see Burton's name anywhere in the credits. Does he own the studio that did the animation or something?

We did get to see previews for Burton's new film Frankenweenie and for Hotel Transylvania, as well as a spectacular preview for what will certainly be a spectacular film, Life of Pi.  The book is so good I read it again when I was laid up last fall.

Edited to say I wanted to say thanks for posting about this, because I read this thread this morning and it was Burton's name that convinced Santi to give it a try!

@ Basquo: Made correction that Chris Butler, the ParaNorman director worked for and was influenced by Tim Burton:

Also, agree that the film was scary at turns.  The youngest in our group was 10 but I saw what appeared to be about 5 and 6 year olds with other adults.

Also, I took one of those feedback surveys for the PI movie with headphones and such.

@Ann:  Spoiler alert.  The wide shouldered-studly character in the background in the poster with the young blond girl clinging to him makes a "matter of fact" comment at the end of the film about telling his boyfriend about the things that happened something to the effect: "Wait until my boyfriend hears about this..."  One of the teenagers in my group said "Oh snap! No he didn't!"   :D
