Just a Little Nod To Carl
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:11:49 PM »
I think I'm a couple of days late with this.  August 8th of 2011, we all lost someone really terrific in these forums.  Someone with real bravery and dignity that few of us can match.

Mr. Carl Wilcox, our own beloved Captain Carl.

Carl, you were one of my very first friends on here, and I still miss you deeply.  One year later, and I still haven't been able to post anything in your memorium thread.  I'm sure you know that it isn't for lack of caring.  Heck, I can't even get through this now without the waterworks.  If I can spread a fraction of the happiness you managed to those around you, I'll figure I've done well.

In a great many ways, you really did pilot us.

You still do.

I was just thinking of Carl a couple of days ago. So sad. He's very missed.

We were so close to getting to meet Carl in person in Seattle last year.  I'm not sure I've known anyone face life with such bravery.   :'(

I think of Carl nearly every time I see someone on a motorcycle and every time I see an older model pick-up truck. I miss him more than words can convey.

For those of you who didn't know Carl, visit his thread(s) in the In Memoriam forum.

I had just started to get to know Carl before he passed away...
I remember how amazed I was that he would take the time to talk to me on the phone even when he was in the hospital and dealing with some very painful issues; I remember how he still kept his sense of humor throughout and how he made me feel like I was special ---- what a time to be thinking of others - when you have so much going on in your own life.

Carl's bravery, dignity, and willingness and commitment to stay in touch with his friends throughout his last days taught me a lot - that half of what I go through on a daily basis isn't worth getting upset about.

Carl you shall remain in my thoughts and in my heart.

Rest peacefully and ride gracefully.

For those of you who didn't ever meet Capt. Carl, I can kinda fill you all in, he had a very nice personality, and was a great guy, we talked about bikes, helmets speeding on the I-40 & I-25 without getting caught and ticketed (I'm a former rider myself) we used to laugh and just sit & talk about whatever came to mind, HIV/AIDS or just about anything.....

He also was in a sero-discordant relationship , like I'am w/ Bob, I didn't see him that much, maybe like every few months, but when I did, we had fun up @ his & his hubby's place grilling steaks, cooking dinner, laughing at what some of you all would say in the forums...sometimes he'd just drop by on his way home to say hello to me & bob

I never could get enough of Carl, his life was so short, and he had a lot to say, I  would just sit and listen to him, and he taught me how to be a better listener, and a better person  for doing so....he would read me the riot-act if I was being a Butt-head.... don't how he knew this, but he did....

Carl reminded me of one of our forum members Henry (buckmark) that I got to meet @ this yrs. AMG 2012, same smile, laugh, and stature, and almost the very same wit too, you guys could have been brothers so speak, at least in my eyes and in many ways you were....

He had incredible courage for what he was going thur health wise, I'd always get a call from him , if he wanted to talk or had something to say.......Great Guy , I hope I did this post justice by describing Capt. Carl to all of you that never met him before, I got the privilege to do so and I'm forever grateful for that.......

Hugs

That was nice, Dennis. And thunter34. Can't believe it has been a year already. Although I'm here for just a bit longer than a year, remembering his posts and reading this thread made me shed a tear or two. But I believe you all do him a great honor by remembering him.
