Inquiry about treatment
« on: September 13, 2007, 03:24:49 PM »
I was diagnosed back in June 2005. I kept checking myself every 3 months with a doctor to make sure that I was doing fine and according to her I was therefore she never put me on medications.

I last saw her iin February of this year and then I lost my job so I wasn't able to keep checking myself. I wasn't hooking up or doing anything with anybody though therefore I took care of myself  from exposing myself to something else.

I want to know how long does it take for someone to be put on meds and if the fact that I was never put on any from the beginning is a good thing or not?

I am curious about that.

Can anyone tell me?

I'm sad to hear you lost your job. An AIDS Service Organization in your state is a good start to advise you on how best to continue to monitor your blood on little or no income. Type in your zip code then select all 6 services then click Find ASO

The obvious answer is who knows.  This bug affects each person differently.  So much is dependant on your CD4 count and VL.  The great thing is you haven't started meds.  However I wouldn't wait to long to get to a doctor and get things checked out.  You don't want to get behind this thing and have to play catch up.
Follow allopathicholistic's advice.

Gotta agree with Woods on this.

You don't want to get behind this thing and have to play catch up.

I declined meds for the first fourteen years after my diagnosis and ended up losing my faculties including white matter in my spine and brain due to the virus going crazy out of control. No, you don't want that.

As was said, this bug affect us all differently thus some had to start meds right away and some didn't like myself for 10 years. Tonight I will be starting my meds for the first time. Agrees with Allo too, you need to get in contact with your ASO and see if they have a clinic.
