SSDI Mental Exam
« on: August 16, 2012, 06:17:03 PM »
Due to Chronic Fatigue and Neuropathy in both feet I had to go on long term disability from work. I applied for SSDI and received a letter saying that I have been scheduled for a mental exam. Is this normal procedure and what should I expect?

Sounds about right, it's no big deal, you just get ask some questions by a contracted Doctor...

I did this same exam about 12 to 13 yrs. ago

Good Luck

any more help on this topic???
I am scheduled for the same test in 2 weeks.
my t-cells have remained in the 600's for years and viral load undetectable.
chronic severe fatigue. (sleep 11+ hours per day)
chronic daily headaches for 1 1/2 years.
muscle loss in legs. (i think due to lipitor for about 10 years)
almost 30 years hiv+.
high blood pressure.
high cholestorol.
always try my best on tests but THIS one i really want to fail.
thought i would have been dead 29 years ago and here i am worried about being turned down for ssdi.
fitting little boxes together? wow!
my memory is getting pretty bad but i have not yet reverted to a 4 year old.

THIS could be problematic : my t-cells have remained in the 600's for years and viral load undetectable,

so unless your going for something else health-wise or mental health wise, I wouldn't count on that alone, as it means you don't  have AIDS be the definition guide-lines

Good Luck

thanks Den,
i have read this several times during the past year and still have a hard time grasping it all.
hard for me to understand why the combination of severe fatigue (i sleep 11+ hours a day), daily headaches, muscle weakness with joint pain, and a very difficult time with concentration (slow mental processing to the point that i can no longer do my job), etc. wouldn't be enough to qualify.
not really sure if it's the long term effects of the virus or the meds.
i know my numbers on their own don't give me an AIDS diagnosis but as most of us LTS know, numbers just don't tell the whole story.
guess i will keep my fingers crossed and keep fighting.

Yeah, your right it dose not paint to whole picture or tell the whole story  ???

an AIDS diagnosis, Post Traumatic Stress , and a few IOs is what got me SSDI and a Teamsters Pension  :-[

Good Luck, don't give up  ;)
