Extremely worried, Looking for your Advice please!
« on: May 14, 2012, 12:51:17 PM »
Its now three months (8 weeks and 2 days after exposure) that I made a mistake I am now unable to forget. I ve been reading articles about HIV and thats how I came to this forum. I have convinced myself of having been infected by HIV.

Mine is this: on March 12, 2012 I had sex with a girl I didnt really know. we spent a night together, having sex three times but with condoms at each. we had kissed for about 10 minutes before and I remember having touched her vagina with my fingers but with no real penetration. I also took off condoms with my hands, seeing they were not broken.

A week after that scenario, I started having symptoms that I read on the web were HIV symptoms. It all started with a burning upper back pain, pain in shoulders, coldness, loss of appetite, unusual sensations/pain on the body especially arms, legs and abdomen as well.

I said this is it and believed am positive now. I am sad, disappointed by the protection i believed to be effective, sad of having betrayed my body.

Help me with knowledge about these symptoms, if i really have any chance of getting a negative result after test, and any stuff that can help in my condition, I am really scared.

two weeks after exposure, I had a test that came back Neg, though I was sure this one was unreliable, Today I pray for a chance to get that result one more time

Cariggy, I say you are worrying absolutely unnecessarily. You used condoms for intercourse which is exactly what you are supposed to do. They provide very effective protection. If they had failed you would have known it at the time because it's very obvious when that happens. The condom ends up looking like a fringed hoop on the penis.

None of your symptoms are in any way HIV specific. If they persist you should discuss them with your doctor.

You can if you want to get tested at 3 months just for your own peace of mind. I don't see any reason to expect anything other than a negative result.

Thanks Andy for your comment,

I did forsure think that the protection was effective at some point, but what scares me are those unusual symptoms. could that only be coincnidence, and those symptoms are of an other disease? I really want to read from here about those symptoms before i undergo a check up.

As I said previously to you, Cariggy, there is nothing HIV specific about any of your "symptoms." Which is not surprising to me since nothing you have reported of your sexual activities would have put you at risk for HIV. Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

We can't diagnose symptoms here. If you have troubling physical sensations you should discuss them with your doctor.

HIV is not your problem. Period.

I'm glad you found the exchanges to be helpful. As far as HIV is concerned I don't see any problem for you. Good luck with getting things sorted out with your doctor.

Hi everyone,
Its been days that I found this forum and appreciate the work you guys are doing here. Someone like Andy who I have been interacting from the beginning of the thread can surely reply and comment to my situation right here.

At somepoint I believed that there wasnt fear for HIV, but the symptoms i earlier mentionned worried me a lot. I rarely experience some of them for the moment.

Today I have a flu (just like before exposure I used to have it) but cant say if its not an other hiv infection symptom, tiredness (i feel like i want to sleep more hours), some attacks(burning sensations) on my head, and especially anxiety and fear.

Its now about 10 weeks that I was exposed. Please advise on how to go on as I am extremely worried. I cant stand a minute without thinkin of this.

Your help will be highly appreciated as I am sure you will provide it!!

But you weren't exposed to the virus. Andy has already explained that to you.

If you feel ill you should see a doctor. If you're experiencing anxiety you should also speak to a doctor. We are not able to assist you with such things.

Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread. In addition to containing links to our lessons on HIV testing and transmission it lays out the posting guidelines for the Am I Infected? forum.

Thank you MTd for you reaction,
Andy did say that and that reconforted me, but am much worried.
Having described my night exposure and symptoms so far, Are there any reasonable chances that I might have dodged the bullet??? Cause the protection say yes I have nt been at rish but positive is still possible if I look at how am feeling.

I am preparing myself to have a checking, settigng my mind to be ready for what the Doc will bring back, as if Poz, I will never unknow it.

Carriggy,

You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection. You did the right thing and used condoms for intercourse.

Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with a virus you have not been at risk for.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Hello everyone,
I know testing was the only way out of this maybe world  i have been freakin out into.  I just gave my blood for for some STIs testing, HIV included. i am one hour far from being read the results but my heart is beating bad

I ve learned that getting tested does not change one' status, thats what make me feel strong. But see I canot even type as i used to, but What I know is that one option is going to be ruled out: I am Poz or Neg.

I would say wish me good luck, but I know luck has nothing to do with this.
So soon I will post the results

Cariggy,

Unless you've been having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse that you neglected to tell us about, you're sure to get a negative hiv result.

Hello Buddies,

The result came back negative!! how relieved was I!! can't say! but I did ask the doctor what kind of test did they use, and He said it was Hexagon rapid test for HIV 1 and 2. I knew nothing about this kind of test, and I started wondering how accurate this might be considering that my incident happened on March 12, 2012 and we are 7 7 2012?

Thank you for helping,

Cariggy,

You could have tested on June 4th and you'd still be conclusively hiv negative regardless of the type or generation of the test.

For that matter, you could have tested on March 13th and you STILL be conclusively hiv negative because you NEVER had a risk in the first place!

You do not have hiv. No big surprise.

Keep using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you won't have it in future either. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!

Let me warn you that if you keep coming back with more whatiffs about this NO RISK, CONCLUSIVE NEGATIVE RESULT situation, you WILL be given a Time Out I'm sure you've seen others warned about.

Please consider yourself warned!!!
