He did, the darling little pet. Couldn't you just hear his daddy saying that? I know I could. :)

Oh, that is totally Philiciaicious.  I suppose that makes us the kiddo's distant aunties.

I do have to agree with Ford to some extent though.  That video is like total bait for fucking pervs.  Spooky shit.

This is a pedophile's dream Youtube video.  His parents really need to monitor what he's posting.  I'm as liberal as they come, but that is way too much skin and sexuality for a kid his age.  I felt icky watching it.  Although, nothing you can't see on those kiddy beauty pageant shows.  And, OMG!  ;)  If this is how he acts now, he is going to be a handful when he gets older.

So I read about Luka Magnotta's Naked News video in one thread, so I watched it on youtube and then I clicked on another youtube video with his name, a delusional sad (and now creepy) montage by his selves (wikipedia entry: Luka Rocco Magnotta, born as Eric Clinton Newman, and also known as Vladimir Romanov or Mattia Del Santo) themed "LUKA = HOPE" 1300 views.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfxi9P4_rLE

And then I go to this thread and watch this twerking boy's rather disturbing narcissistic flesh display, and like a few others, I feel unclean.

And think, hmm, tednlou is right, maybe at least his parents should monitor this kinda disturbing act of display to strangers.  I mean I don't get a psycho vibe from the boy.  He's kind of bad ass.  And its hardly new or rare that kids are displaying themselves like this.

But just by accident the two videos I saw one after the other.  Magnotta and this boy.  And was kinda struck by the "i am what I construct and perform in public" feeling of the two videos.  So far the boy's is a success...

And what finally happens to the psychopathic 30 year old who has created so many different online and offline personas, all of which leave him unfulfilled, as the years beat on.

Hoping it is a very THICK line between boisterous theatrical children testing "performed identity" and adults being psychotic partly as a result of their long experience constructing identities that don't sustain mental integrity.

Read between the lines for just 20 minutes about Magnotta and you see that the murder was built up to fulfill one of the only identities he could completely achieve - crazy assed murderer.  Over several years, he created several different online and offline personas all leading to this.  The top model lead nowhere. The porn star.  The "high class" callboy...  All failures.

If this twerking boy wants to dance, he should be in the local tres queer dance school and learn jazz hands and point, like every good gay boy.  If he wants to act, I'm sure there's something he can do in school or locally. Just put a show with his friends for crissakes.

I thought parents were supposed to curb any situation in which either their kids make spectacles of themselves for a creepy, unknown public, or, of course when the creepy unknown public takes an interest.  I mean, I'm sure if some creep came up to their kid and say, hey sonny boy, do a dance for me, they would be horrified.

Do this kid's parents think they are being progressive by not censoring all this acting out?  To a camera. Destined for youtube??

Kid can act out all he wants but does it have to be to his camera and then to the world.  Ick.

^Well...I don't know about all that.  Personally, in the span of three minutes, I just went from finding it kinda uplifting for a kid to be able to be so very openly g-g-g-g-g-GAY to thinking 10 minutes with him would likely be twerking my last aging gay nerve.

This kid is only thirteen years old. I'm a fairly liberal parent, but no child of mine aged only thirteen would be permitted to put him or herself out there online in such a sexual manner at such a young age. I'd encourage his creative streak, but allow it online in this day and age of cyber-grooming of young children? NO WAY.

My first thought was "where are the parents?" but his parents - or at least his mom - know what he's getting up to. My proof? His car "vlog" where he's sitting right next to his mother and he talks about putting the video online. She's rather blasé about the whole thing.

She's storing up a helluva lot of trouble for that kid. He needs to be reined in before someone takes advantage of him or otherwise abuses him. There's liberal parenting and there's just plain stupidity. His mother is either pretty damn stupid or just too wrapped up in herself to realise the possible implications of what she's allowing her young child to do.

This is indulgent neglect. It's easier to indulge your precocious child and let them do what they want, regardless of the consequences, than it is to actually be a parent and set some behavioural limits and channel creative energy into more appropriate activities. This kid is crying out for attention and I'm all too afraid he's going to get the wrong kind of attention. Some therapist is going to make a lot of money out of him one day. Mark my words.

Some of you may think I'm overreacting - but this is my gut reaction as a parent.

I don't think you are overreacting. I don't like the idea of kids having vlogs that are available to to the general public. There can be all kinds of bad consequences that kids are not mature enough to handle. The sexual dancing is exactly the kind thing where a parent should be intervening and explain why this is not appropriate for a 13 year old.

Some of you may think I'm overreacting - but this is my gut reaction as a parent.

Ann, I totally get why it is prudent for parents to disallow public exhibition of their kids’ theatrics of this nature.

However, many precocious kids do things to express and exhibit themselves publicly because they like the attention. And with the internet getting that attention is well within reach. The first thought that crossed my mind was: “what a bold and confident kid to make such a video at age 13.” Then I wondered whether he’d be bullied at school or become popular as a result.  The abuse angle only crossed my mind when tednlou, Mecch and you brought it up. And I see your point.

Perhaps I’m naive, but I feel it is slightly unfair to apportion too much blame on the kid specifically (as for parents- I’m on the fence) since he performed the act as a form of self-expression and perhaps personal amusement. Why should he (or even his parents) be held accountable for any negative fallout that is neither tacitly implied, nor expected out of such an act ?

I’ve seen stage performances of kids on TV in which kids aged 7 and 8 revel in vigorous and gusto-filled bust and hip movements to Bollywood songs, Beyonce etc, and everyone, parents included, clap and cheer on. I recall some of their moves being as explicit and provocative as this kid’s were. How is this video any different? If there are sick pervy predators that get off on stalking kids then they are the ones that need to be tracked and monitored- because kids will be kids, correct?

This is perhaps an inappropriate analogy to make, but a few years ago, in Delhi, there was a spate of late-night rapes on women. The Chief Minister of Delhi, who’s a woman herself, came out with a statement to the effect of: “If young ladies are going to walk unescorted late at night wearing revealing clothes then they’re asking for trouble”. I see what she was driving at, but it misses the point that the real culprits weren’t the women but the rapists who committed the crime. They are the ones who made it unsafe for the women, not the other way around.

Nobody is blaming the kid for anything.

Yes you make good points that there are kids displayed on TV, and Youtube, doing quesey making things all the time.  However, two wrongs don't make a right.

Yes its not the parents or the kids fault that there may be perverts watching.  Perverts isn't the only issue.  The issue I was feeling was the kids own developing relationship with display, the camera, an audience, and sometimes inauthentic identities.  He mentions a tie in to Katy Perry, as the result of this dance display.  True or false, may not matter, just the idea is wrong.

A lot of sensible grown ups don't like all that JonBenet Ramsey shit in pageants, Toddlers and Tiarras, etc, for example, and there is a healthy discussion about many of these areas. Think of those awful Gosselin parents (my opinion they were awful).

As for this point, it's a matter of opinion, isn't it? It is just as arguable that it facilitates creativity, self expression and self-discovery. Who decides what an "inauthentic identity" is, or how one should express themselves ?

Save for conspicuously harmful instances (to self or to another person), I'm always wary of judging why people do what they do, even kids.

Social Networking’s Good and Bad Impacts on Kids

Psychologists explore myths, realities and offer guidance for parents

WASHINGTON—Social media present risks and benefits to children but parents who try to secretly monitor their kids’ activities online are wasting their time, according to a presentation at the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association.
......
Daily overuse of media and technology has a negative effect on the health of all children, preteens and teenagers by making them more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders, as well as by making them more susceptible to future health problems.

___________

interesting article.

I think the issue is that if the kid is expressing himself to his friends and peers, its OK.  That's my opinion.   I think its not great for him to feel a real connection to Katy Perry because she tweeted a link to him twerping, which is shaking his ass, in an age inappropriate manner, for the whole world on youtube.  I don't think we need a future where many many young people feel that exposure and "celebrity" because of exposure, or exposure as a means to celebrity, is a fruitful way to build an identity.
Generally, many people view empty celebrity as a rather special case, and don't want their kids to aspire to this.   If entertainment or show biz is a desired career, there are real things to learn.  Exposure is just a marketing method.

I have a feeling young Anthony will probably be pretty quick with a shank in a few years time. :)

But you've gotta love the sheer showmanship of his performances.

Just for the record guys, I think the kid is fantastic.

While in no way am I blaming either the kid or his mother for the predatory creeps out there, I am blaming the mother for not being a little more vigilant about what her son is putting online. It's her job to protect him until he's older and more mature and has better judgement. Again - he's only thirteen. I want to see him grow up safe and sound - he certainly has a lot of talent and spunk. I just think his mom could be protecting him better and helping him channel his talent and energy in better, safer ways. At the very least, she should be reviewing what he puts online (before it goes online) until he's a little older.

It's the mother bear in me wanting to protect little cubs. So shoot me. ;D

edited to add... Put it this way. If he were my son and I discovered adults were discussing his videos on an internet forum, I'd feel pretty creeped out. And no, its not because the majority of participants in this thread are gay, I'd be equally creeped out if he were being discussed in an Off Topic forum on say, a pregnancy site. Or gaming site, or whatever.

Just knowing adults were ooogling my little lad's (or little lass's) behind while he was (very provocatively) shaking it to music for the camera would cause me serious concern. If he were eighteen rather than thirteen, I'd probably have a good laugh. But thirteen? No. Gotta draw the line somewhere and it's the parent's job to do just that.
