We are all God's creation!

Sober news courtesy of towleroad:
http://www.towleroad.com/

...Gallup published the results of a poll which probed American opinions on the origins of the human species. The results: 46% of Americans believe in straight-up creationism, 32% believe in so-called "intelligent design," and a mere 15% believe humans evolved via natural selection.

....The numbers also showed a tendency to follow party lines, with nearly 60% of Republicans identifying as creationists, while 41% of Democrats hold the same beliefs.

...Over at Gallup, a helpful chart shows the evolution of Americans' opinions on evolution over the last 30 years. It's not pretty. Very little has changed since 1982, when 44% of Americans were creationists, 38% believed in "intelligent design," and 9% came out for natural selection.

Lest you think the Gallup results are mistaken, take a quick peek at the comments section over at CNN's coverage of the poll. It's a proud and appalling parade of ignorance.

God help us all if the Christian Right gain much more power in the USA.

I'll never understand it.  And, it isn't just evolution.  Get a discussion going about life on other planets and see how that goes for many.  Even if you are a holy-roller, I don't understand why you can't believe evolution was God's design.  My partner is a science teacher.  When teaching evolution (which is very tricky in schools today), he can expect a few nasty emails about how he should be giving the other side.  When he discusses climate change, he can also expect a few nasty emails about it being untrue and just a liberal conspiracy created by Al Gore.

There's a simple answer to those nasty emails - he should not be giving "the other side" because religion is not science and religion has no place in a science class. Religion has no place in a public state-funded school system. At all. You cannot take creationism out of religion and you cannot take religion out of creationism. You can't have one without the other.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
