Glutathione
« on: May 31, 2012, 07:41:16 PM »
Hi,

I read on this site (http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/Nutrition_4979.shtml) that glutathione is especially important/beneficial for those living with HIV/AIDS. I've not heard of this nutrient before, nor have I seen any posts about it here on these forums (but I am new to HIV, and this site, so it's quite possible I have overlooked it).

Since reading this article, I have done some further reading and discovered this whey protein called Immunocal. (http://www.whatisimmunocal.com/illness_hiv_aids_glutathione_immunocal.htm).
Has anybody heard anything about this? Or is it just another scam?

I was diagnosed with HIV in April and started Atripla 10 days ago. I'm looking for nutritional supplements that MAY improve/support my immune system (and/or general health); I'm not looking for a 'magic cure;' And I'm not trying to avoid HAART; In fact, I'm trying to find nutritional supplementation that MIGHT work synergistically.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Thor

I don't know about Immunocal, but I think it's important to note that you probably only need to take glutathione and other supplements if you have a deficiency. As the AM Nutrition Lesson you link to notes many HIV positive folks have these deficiencies. It pays to talk to your doctor about it.
