Confused

BKNYLivin:
As some of you would have read in my other post, last week I tested positive - 2 rapid tests were done, the oral swab and blood and both came back positive. So I went to my appointment today, which I thought was to get my initial lab results(cd4&viral load) and the confirmation test.
It turns out the confirmation test came back negative(which would be wonderful, if that was true), so now I have to wait 2 weeks to get the results of another HIV test, CD4 count and viral load(somehow those never made it to the lab). In the meantime, my doctor says they are still treating me as positive and not to get my hopes up too high and I was given 3 vaccinations today meant to be beneficial to people who are HIV+. She also said maybe I came into contact with the virus, but somehow have not become infected by it - can't remember what exact words she used.
I just want to know what's going on and soon, don't need this confusion right now, but I guess I have to sit tight and wait out the 2 weks.
Any ideas or anyone with a similar experience.

Hey doll!

Such confuzzlement! I feel for you. When HIV antibody testing, the first test they do is an ELISA test. If that one is positive then they do another one called a Western Blot. It works something like this:

ELISA poz + WB poz == HIV positive
ELISA poz + WB neg == HIV negative
ELISA poz + WB indeterminate == HIV negative.

Even if you do get a positive WB result after a positive ELISA test, they'll often take a fresh set of bloods just to be sure.

Do you know if the negative confirmatory test was a whole new set of bloods or the result of a WB test following your originally positive ELISA?

(Who is hoping you are negative)

Fingers crossed for you. Hoping you will get very happy news and not have a need to be here again.

If it goes otherwise then of course we're here for you.

Work at staying productively busy. It will help to pass the waiting time.

Keep us posted and good luck.

Eldon:
Hello BKNY,

Just as the others have said; sit tight and wait to see what your confirmation results will be. Please DO keep us posted on the outcome.

Make the BEST of each Day!
