Best Counts Ever
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:02:19 PM »
Got my latest lab results today -

Highest CD4s ever  = 1,041
Still UD

Triglycerides are down (thanks to the lopid and change of diet)
Cholesterol is good - both HDL and LDL

Only bad (VERY BAD) news.... Syphilis titer (RPR) is back up = 1:16 (See "Dayuummm Syphilis" thread)

Doc says the urgent care doc did a great job on the incision on the "boil" under the arm and that he put me on the right meds to prevent MRSA and Staph...

I get labs done again at the beginning of June and see her end of June...

We have to address the rising RPR titer issue (as discussed in other thread).

Doc was very pleased with CD4s and Triglycerides -
changes in diet, I think, have been the biggest help.

At least there was some over-riding good news in today's visit.

Good news Phil regarding the good HIV numbers and the cholesterol and trigs going in the right direction.  Now here's hoping a good guy gets the syph situation under control and the next report will really be the best ever.

Congrats on the great CD4s, viral load and (sigh) lipids. ;)

As you know, I envy those who can do the lipid change so well. I would gladly shave my body, wax my butt and act as someone's surf board if I though it would help my lipids.

But, I digree . . .

Regarding the RPR, sorry about the higher titer.

I saw in the other thread what your options are, which is what I suspected the doc would say.

HUGS,

Mark

Regarding the RPR, did the doc mention what was next in that realm? I know what the treatent can entail, but wondered if he mentioned it.

HUGS,

Mark

Hi Mark:
I posted the route(s) we may follow on the RPR in the "dayuumm syphilis" thread (trying to keep that thread count up there - LOL), but I can tell you here....  the doc is going to consult with some of her colleagues who are syphilis gurus....  we will either...
a) do nothing - as I may be one of those rare people whose RPR fluctuates between 1:4 and 1:16
b) treat again with the 3 rounds of cement butt shots
c) put me in the hospital for 14 days of IV antibiotics

Doc ordered another RPR for my next labs - I see her again in June.... if it rises significantly then I will most likely receive cement butt shots (as this would seem to indicate reinfection - although that is very very very unlikely - as I have not been sexually active - all of this syph stuff has kind of taken the wind out of my sexual sails); if it rises slightly then I will most likely be hospitalized, as this would indicate that I have a more resistant strain of syph requiring more aggressive treatment; if it holds steady or goes down, then nothing will be done, as this would be supportive of me being one of the crazy (leave it to me) cases where the RPR fluctuates but never completely goes down as far as it normally should (but also doesn't go high enough to warrant continually treating).....

It is a frustrating waiting game.... and I am hoping to get some solid answers.

Phill, I'd kill for those lipids-levels as well as those CD4's  ::) but I'll keep my UD tho, oh nooooo "Dayuummm Syphilis" again  :( well let's hope not, maybe it's a false positive, usually they will re-test to see, but JUNE, that's like 3 months out, can't you get another RPR done before JUNE  :(

Q: are you still smoking and not using your CPAP machine?

And this would cause my syphilis titer to go up how?  Unless smoking has become a new transmission route for le syphilis. ;D

And yes, I am still smoking - though only 1/2 a pack a day now (as opposed to 1 pack a little over two months ago), I also don't smoke in the new car (that has helped me cut down a lot) and the CPAP is averaging 3.4 hours per night - still haven't got it to where it needs to be, but at least more consistent with using it. Need to see about switching to a nose only mask - I think that may take me to new heights of use.
