What are the treatment options for High Grade AIN?
« on: March 16, 2012, 01:51:14 PM »
I had a high resolution anoscopy and an anal pap done the other day. They found 2 lesions during the HRA.  They biopsied the lesions but said it appeared to be high grade AIN.  They treated them with some sort of acid but told me once the pathology report comes back from the lab, if it is high grade ain I would need to start treatment.  They mentioned starting Aldara cream.  I searched on this site and there are some threads about Aladara and a few have mentioned nasty side effects.

Does anyone have any recommendations if Aladara doesnt work or an alternative to Aldara?

They also vaccinated me with the Guardasil vaccine the same day they did the HRA and Pap.  Its a three shot series so I had my first shot.   I am waiting on the pathology report.  I hate waiting.

Interestingly however, I did get to see my nether region in high definition television.  It was beautiful.  Looked like a flower opening toward the sun on a warm spring day.

Imiquimod (Aldara) is usually enough for AIN 1 and AIN 2. Some studies suggest that light based therapies like Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Infrared Photocoagulation (IPC) are useful if Aldara treatment doesn't work though there is no really solid evidence for this.

There's another topical treatment called 5-Fluorouraxil (Efudix) which may be used.

Aldara can caused flu like symptoms and itchiness of the hiney hole.

For AIN 3 surgery is often required.

I've gone through a few rounds with Aldara -- for treatment of external warts.  The only side effects I suffered was some burning.  Use no more than indicated and try to minimize the area you apply to it -- i.e. only put it where it's needed.

Wash your hands well after -- don't want getting that in your eyes or elsewhere.....
